Guppies And Tetras?

I have a 63l tank with one male betta and 5 neon tetras. I'm going to get the betta his own tank and am able to rehome the tetras if necessary. I would really like guppies but don't know if they will be compatible with the tetras. Also I would like a pair of dwarf gouramis, but again are they compatible with guppies with or without tetras? Basically, what are the no no's with guppies and what fish would they be compatible with. Please help as I don't want to make another mistake like trying to start a community tank with a betta!

Guppies,tetras and gouramis should all live happily together,guppies can go with most community tank fish.

Right now my Guppies are with pygmy cories and a platy and all get along VERY well. The cories do need an established tank though, so unless you have one, you may not want to get any yet.

Platies are another option. They do get a bit bigger than guppies, though, which is one reason I'm planning to "re-home" mine. They can get up to 2" long.

It's not established yet. Only had fish in it for 5 days! Realised pretty quickly that getting the neons and betta were a mistake. There hasn't been any violence (yet) but I'm pretty stuck as to what else I can put in there, which is why I have decided to get the betta his own place.

Will be ordering Ridley's new home tomorrow and then can start planning my more sensible community.

Have a read of the 'fish in cycle' in the beginners section,don't add any more fish until the filter has cycled,or you may lose them due to ammonia/nitrite poisoning.

They will get along fine together, i rehomed my guppies as they were nippy towards my betta.

I've had the tank for about 6 weeks, did a fishless cycle with ammonia and just got the fish last sunday. I did loads of research while I was waiting for the tank to cycle. Really wanted a betta but had read in lots of places they're no good in a community, which I accepted and was ok with and then we finally went to get some fish the lady in the lfs said " oh no, it's fine to keep with bettas and tetras" and so I foolishly let myself be persuaded. Even though I think deep down I knew it would be a mistake

Tis good the tank is cycled

Its not surprising how many people get persuaded to buy fish thats not suitable

Like i said neons are usually pretty compatable with guppies,all fish may differ in behaviour,you may get aggressive ones,i've bought endlers home which were suppose to be friendly,but they terrorised my platys and harleys,so they went back to the lfs.

Proof is trying,if you're not happy with the way they're acting take them back.

The betta will defo need it's own home as they rarely tolerate guppies.

Neons, these are usually fine. However on the odd occasion one flips and will easily shred guppy fins. Seen it done many time personally.

Dwarf Gouramies will be fine.

In my own experience, guppies are fine with any small fish that is not a terrible fin nipper. I have kept them with various neons and rasboras over the years with no real problems.
