I bought a guppy from my lfs last Saturday- with what looked like an interesting flash on its side- it was flat and looked like its colouring. Bought its brother too. By Tuesday the white was raised and clearly fungus. I began treating with eSHa 2000. By Thursday he was dead and by Friday so was his brother. I have no hospital tank- so whatever it is is in my main tank now and another guppy is developing the same symptoms. Despite treating with both eSHAa 2000 and EXIT since Monday the white is progressing rapidly.

I could kick myself- but will leave that for later. Any ideas of a better med? Should I continue with both and see what happens? For how long? Don't want to poison the rest of the fish.

Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, pH 7
Tank cleaned every 3 days- 25% (appropriate level of meds replaced)
Stock- 125l - 5 guppies, 6 cardinals, 6 pristellas, 6 corys, 5 otos.

Turn temp down by two degrees, and add some pimafix with the esha2000

Did this, but it was too late for that guppy. He had been fine on Saturday, then was dead by the next Friday. A third guppy now has it on his tail- it seems to start just where the caudal meets the body, then spread both ways. It's definitely progressing, but more on his tail, and none on his body so far. In a 125l l tank in a soft water area (Scotland) I've been using 15ml of Pimafix and 20 drops of esHa daily. I'm concerned that this may not be doing the trick. Any advice?

I would not bother with the esha2000 it's not working, do a water change of 30%, add the correct amount of pimafix to the water removed then add myxazin.
Havent time to run black carbon but it should be ok.

Thanks. Will try this.

Afterthought...haven't used that before...is it safe for the otos and corys?

Yes it's fine more the parasites meds with corys and oto's.

Update: 2 more guppies have died. Another suddenly developed small cotton wool like balls on its caudal tail last night. By the time I came home today it had spread a lot-but not onto his body- some had joined up and his tail is about to tear from a couple of holes in the middle. Another has a tail that is beginning to rot. The stats are as before and all other fish are showing no symptoms. Is this velvet rather than fungus? Any description I read says that it's a gold colour. These are white and fuzzy. The fish has lost weight and is lethargic. This is very worrying. I've lost 4 fish in 2 weeks and its seems likely that more will go. I'm not keen on poisoning the rest of the tank though! I've got Myxasin, EsHa Exit, Melafix and Pimafix as well as aquarium salt as a first aid kit. I have been changing the water every 2 days and topping up on meds. There's a first dose of Myxasin in the tank and 20 drops of EsHa Exit. Advice?!

Want to know if the fish lost weight due to not eating.
Turn temp down by two degrees then add myxazin and pimafix.
Increae aeration in the tank.
Velvet when white as it can come in a number of colours will look like a talc dusitng on a fish, not a fluffy ball.

He seems to have become bent all of a sudden and thinner over the past week. He's still eating- but not as much. Was one of my most active guppies- he's now the oldest one in the tank. I got him 8 months ago.

Temp turned down to 24 degrees.

So are the fluffy balls- they are very small- fungus or velvet or whitespot? Didn't quite understand your reply sorry. Is there a reason that they seem to be focused on the tails/ tail area?

Been quite alot of post on tb lately.
Lucky I've never had it in my tanks.
I would follow the articles advice.
You could try a vet for an antibiotic.
Don't worry very rare to catch tb you have to be exposed to it a long time.
I would freeze the fish and take it to a vet for testing.

You could do a thread in tropical chit chat and ask for advice over there on how members dealt with tb in there tanks.
