Guess Who I Brought Home To Live With Today ^_^ Come In To Find Out Up

yeap i know the problems with dying anenomy if not noticed although its not hard to when its sitting in a tank where i spend most of my day and also know how much they love overflow boxes which is why im getting the top of the box covered with netting tommorrow which will still allow max water flow through over the sides. still going to find out what the aquarium shop says, they seemed to think my tank was fine for one but yeah ill ask them again on wednesday when i go down

I bet they will say it's fine there trying to sell you it, me and others here are just trying to keep them alive and happy!

as ive mensioned above they r a reputable store and steered me away from birdmouth wrasse when i first enquired about them at this stage. i do want to get one later though because it was the first oddity i saw when diving in fiji and ive wanted one ever since learning about them when i came back!

If you want a nem then it is your decision, I personally wouldn't put one in at this stage but i once added a carpet after three months and had it for five years until i broke the tank down. Common sense usually prevails in these situations just do some research on specific requirements for each anemone and chose the one that suits you best. If you do decide on one try a small bubble tip at first and dont be spending big money on anything fancy!.

Chances are your LFS may advise on a Ritteri Nem as most clowns seem to adopt it pretty well, but as i know from experience this is not a good decision and is in my opinion the hardest of all nems to keep. I wouldn't even try one now and i consider myself to be fairly good with nems.

hi.

i got 2 sand anenomi's today :). they are doing well, one has completely opened out i can see his mouth and body and his tentacles.

the other which is sitting in my fan like live rock has a few white pebbles in his mouth i think im just wondering will he be able to get them out or should i try to get them out with some chop sticks?

Hi,

The Anemones are more than capable of removing any sand pebbles from around their mouths, the biggest mistake with any anemone is moving or touching them as this will stress them out and they may die.
I do believe however that you have made the wrong decision on Sand Anemones, these are very unlikely to host any other clowm apart from the Clarks Clown or maybe the Tomato Clown. I am not saying it won't happen but chances are against you, also remember that it is also likely that the clowns wont adopt a nem at all.

well my one on the rock seems to be cheering :). he had a feed today then wen crazy with excitement and is not looking like an inflated beach ball hehe :). the other has been worrying me since i put him in but i may be worrying over nothing im not sure. at first i though he had his mouth completely open and that, but when i look at it, i think it may be splitting, does anyone know if these anenomes split to reporduce? hope its ok, its the one our clowns live in! its very flat and bout 2 or 3 times longer then yesterday

still seems very healthy. it reacts to touch and lights going on and off, just doesnt seem to be able to close its mouth which ive read is one of the signs of it splitting?

Hi Humpty,

I am not sure if they can split or not? I would have thought they can but wouldn't have thought it could happen so soon after entering the aquarium. Could just be the mood it is in. My Crispa nem can look different from one day to the next and at first i thought something was wrong but after time i got used to its personality.
A gapeing mouth is usually not a good sign but it could also be having a poo :hyper: due to just being fed.

duno. but its been slowley showing signs of splitting for 4 days now. the biggest clown jumped sometime this morning while i was asleep :( so damn pissed. hard enough to get percula clowns atm, not to mension the price :( ARGH. im getting the perspex for the top of the tank finished off today too! damn thing im so peeved. he was beautiful

well it no longer looks like its pulling apart but still seems to have a gaping mouth. it is still attached though and got all its color so im not sure. just wondering, does perspex reflect the light and is it not a good idea to have it with anemones and corals? what else could i do to stop em jumping?

oh also as the chances of me finding anouther true percula are slim is it possible that he can breed with any of the other clowns or atleast pair up? or will it or the other kill each other if theyr of different species of clown?

I think if a perc is put in that is smaller than the one you have then there is a good chance of them getting along fine, but its not a good idea to mix clown species so try to find a new perc. You can get them from some online retailers but it is if you wan to go down this path :good: .
I had a flap set specially made for my tank to avoid jumpers, but i think a clear piece of perspex will be fine and will let the light through ok.

just so hard to find true percs here. all the ones they take from the GBR all bloody go overseas! we live with the greatest marine ecological park in the world and all our best stock goes overseas leaving us with the ####! its so wrong

bought a new one today. small deff not sexed. the other has become a femal i think cause its grown loads and coloured out!.

poblem though. the nemo i had already is chasing the new one, currently stopped it by having on 2 sides of tank. i also put in a blenny and 2 gobies today yey :). just wondering could it be that my nemo from first lot has eggs in the anemone cause he's bombarding my new clown and actually threw my blenny across the tank like a hammer thrower lol. everythings fine for now but might put small clown in breeding trap tonight.

so yeah you guys reacon eggs? i cant see them either but hes been in the anemone with the open mouth all week and has stuck his head in quit a few times.

what do the eggs look like?

ok well the small true perc now is in a breeding trap and has white spot, im guessing due to the stress of being bombarded by the other clown. im dealing with this by freshwater baths, see what happens!
