Gt's And Blue Acara

4ft minimum IMO. 55g for single 75g for community, obviously the larger the better.

If your wanting clown loaches, your gonna want a 5ft tank minimum for optimal growth, although they grow slowly, they do still require a large tank for full grown healthy lives. Stick with the other loaches. 5-10 dither ok.

Rainbows are not the fastest fish, plus they can be territorial especially when the mood takes them, this would not go down with a GT, Ive had a rainbow, hold an entire tank of fish, including large severums to one end, when he was in frisky mood, a GT wouldnt put up with that. Plus they arent the brightest fish on the planet, dont get me wrong, I love em, but sometimes they are dumb.

GT's if your trying for more than one, a proven pair is always a good idea, you could always try to get your own, by buying 6 juvi's and waiting for them to pair up, but you will need to remove the others when this happens.

Thanks for all the info everyone. Feel free to add more though =)

why not get both and see for youself IMO acaras follow you if you walk past the tank lol its quiet fun to own them too!! and theyre sweet hearts to other fish and deffo one of the most peaceful big enough cichlids in my experience good luck anyway

Mine always come to the front of the tank when someone is nearby...begging for food...

The GT is a bully of a fish and can not be trusted with smaller peacful fish. But the blue acara (I have 3 of them one breeding pair one lone male) can be fine with smaller tetras corys and a bunch of others. I keep my lone male with keyhole and bolviana ram 6 xray tetras a bn pleco and clown pleco. All is fine. Well the ram gets picked on from time to time. Both are fun Fish. But you can keep many different fish safely with the acara.

I think the acara are better looking too but that's just me.

How would a 1 convict, 1 gt, 1 jack dempsey and 1 firemouth tank work out? Or 2 convicts (maybe a breeding pair) and 1 gt? Or finally 2 convicts, 1 jack dempsey and 1 gt?

Would any of the above be ok with the loaches and rtbs too?

I have a feeling they'd be bad ideas.

You don't want any pairs unless the tank is over 150G and even then you might have problems

You need to establish a tank size before you even start thinking of fish tbh,

i have yoyos and clowns with my gt, never had a problem. although my gt is still only 5 inch so there is still time i guess. i would stay away from the usual dithers, they tend to end up as food. even the fast ones. basically if it can fit in the GTs mouth (even a little) its probably best to say no.

also if i were you i wouldnt bother with a breeding pair of convicts. its fun at first but after a while you get sick of them terrorising everything else.

also you have to remember that like people each fish is different. my gt is the laziest thing ever. only eats rarely and is scared of everything in the tank, but most are mean, mean fish. (although people say that about convicts and mine are always nice, even when breeding (ish)

I'm trying to work on tanksize now. Nothing concrete (not for a couple months I doubt) but should be 4ft, 200 litres minimum.

Would blue gourami (trichogaster trichopterus) be ok with a GT? I know they work with blue acara, but GT is a different case.

Also, thanks for the recent additions. And when you say usual dithers, do you mean rainbow fish?
