Which fish generally has more personality, GT or blue acara? Is this at all related to what or how many other fish they're kept with?

More to come pending answers.

Personally speaking, GT's, much more owner interactive, although much more aggressive too. My blue acaras, never really took much interest in what was going on around them.

A GT you could keep singularly and still have a great 'wet pet' whereas a blue acara on its own, would probably be less interactive as they do prefer company.

How active were your blue acaras? And did you keep other fish with them (dithers or non dithers?)?

They were fairly active, prefering the back of the tank to coming forwards, they were in with, BH tetras, rams, silver dollars, surinamensis, cant remember what else now.

Sounds like GT is in the lead (maybe others have something different to say?). Any ideas on how interactive they'd be if they were a pair rather than solo?

If you mean pair as in breeding pair, probably would be, although they would not like any intrusion whilst raising fry. If you put two into a tank and they didnt get on, there is a good chance, one would kill and or stress the other badly. Depends on tank size and personality of individual fish at the end of the day.

Maybe not a pair then, lets go back to solo GT.
Will it work with corys?
Will it work with small bristlenoses (6-15cm)?
Will it work with yoyo or polkadot loaches?
Will it work with small dithers (tiger barbs, flame tetras)?
Will it work with keyhole cichlids?
Any other cichlid that's smaller than the GT? (maybe list a few that work, I'd only be looking for 1-3 anyway, if at all)
Red tail black shark?

I'm going to assume praecox and boesemani rainbows are fine. And clown loaches.

And lastly, are there any plants that work?

Why not keep both a Green Terror and a Blue Acara

Because a GT will most likely terrorise an acara.

No to cory's, although its said they give off something which prevents larger fish from attacking them, i wouldnt risk it, Ive just moved all of mine from the tank with the GT.

Bristlenose might work, but again moved mine out and put a common in.

Dont know about loaches, never kept them and dont know their sizes.

TB's/ Flame tetras, could be killed.

Definately not keyholes, far too timid, GT would make light work of those.

Wouldnt recommend any cichlids smaller than a GT, perhaps Firemouths.

Again, Ive moved all my rainbows out as they arent the smartest of things to act as dithers.

Giant Danios are your best bet for dithers.

Plants more likely to be uprooted, you could pot them though.

You could get a placid GT, they are not all nasty and aggressive, but you wont know that until its matured.

Not if they were both young fish that are introduced at the same time!

They will either pair up or more likely kill each other

A GT should be fine with yoyos, which are more than capable of looking after themselves
a Red tailed black shark or a Flying Fox should also be fine with them

Wow, wasn't aware they were so complicated lol.

Minimum tank size? Is 3ft length ok provided X volume is met? Or am I looking at 4ft minimum length?

Depends on how many tankmates you are wanting? For a community based around a GT I would be looking at around a 4ft 75USG tank

More likely to pair up
Not a fan of hybrids, sorry. I'd be looking at trying to get hold of a true rivulatus, otherwise it'd probably be a gold saum.

How does
1 GT
4-7 Clown or yoyo/polkadot loaches (massive size difference between them I know..)
1-3 BN (going against advice here but maybe they don't attack them, I'll put in lots of hiding places anyway I guess)
5-10 some dither
maybe 1 rtbs too

Does that sound ok? Would like more info on boesemani rainbows too ie. what makes them a poor choice as dither etc. What's a good tank size for a pure solo GT (no other fish).

Also, is a GT pair species only?
