ok so after a disaster in my tank and the water suddenly going crap i just do a complete water change and filter sponge change (yes i know i shouldnt have done this)

but now the water just stinks and the water is getting murkier.

all that is in there is sand water and a 9 inch plec and a loada apple snails

filter is eheim 2236/7 (cant remember which)

there was a guppy in there. its died. not suprised. worried about the plec though as ive no where to put it. all of my axolotls are in another tub.

i didnt rinse my sand before doing complete water change. this could be part of it. but i dont understand how its got this bad. smell is seriously soooooo bad. its stinking my room out and the hallway!!!

is there anyway theres something wrong with my filter and its some how making the water bad?

gonna empty water again tomorrow and rinse all the sand. .... somehow!

i need a gravel cleaner! but gonna be a few days till i can get one delivered! and i dont wanna leave it that long! ill use a seive or something and hope for the best!

ok you really should of cleaned the sand untill you were sick of cleaning it and then cleaned it again for good measure! a 9" plec has a huge bio load on any filter and you arnt even running a cycled tank or mature filter theres everychance all these mixed together has sent your water kid of stagnant.

if i were u id get the plec put into a different tank for the time being if indeed u have one and strip the tank down and start over.

god only knows what was in that sand before you put it in could of been anything mate

ok ive binned all of the sand. it was actually REALLY bad

and ive put in some sand that i had left over that has never been used. plus i cleaned a couple of jugs of the old sand.

is there any kind of special sand cleaner like a gravel cleaner?

This is what happened here when my filter failed. I would check it's running okay if you haven't already.

I remember a long time ago I had a smell problem, and it was caused by a dead apple snail. Check yours !
