I brought 6 plattys for my tank on Sunday... I got my water tested the same day and they said it was fine. Since getting them I have had 2 deaths. So I phoned the shop and they said if I bring some of my water in they will refund them if they are okay... So I did without any worried as I knew it was fine. They tested it and it was a little high in Ph and Amania... (Any good fish keeper will know these two go up when new fish is added) and they wont give money or the new fish to me. Even after explaining my water was fine when i brought them, the other 4 is completly happy and swimming around without a care in the world, and that water condictions change for a while after adding new fish !!!

Ok, wait until they close, smash the windows and take the fish you want. :good:

No im only joking, seriously dont do that..please

Grr, it annoys me when LFS do this to people. You gain trust in someone and they go and ruin it! I would find another LFS if I was you :)

that sounds like a good idea... i might just go do that... Mah i wouldnt have the guts too, so nothing to worry about :)
Yep its stupid half the time. The only problem though is mnext nearest one has had 4 complents about them and I brought a betta from them and it died in a week. (They are as crap as these as) and the one i brought the plattys off are a good shop (Southern aqautics)... Well generaly... the next shop is about half an hour away from me... and thats means more stress on the fish

I hate it when things like that happen, I suspect that they are behaving like that because you are young and they think you don't know your rights.

Is it possible that you ca ngo back with an adult and explain the same things again, if they have checked the water initially and they said it was fine then you might be able to change their mnds

You see, I done somthing which helped alot.

One LFS was trying to make a mug out of me trying to get me to buy all the dear products. so my dad came in with me for a look around - and all they saw was the young man from earlier and some big bald guy.

then i went in alone, they tried it again.

so i simply went in the next day with some of my mates, who most people wouldnt 'stare' at. there the kind of 'chavvy' looking guys - now the LFS dont try it anymore, i think the 10 hooded up guys scared them off a little.

Silly really, as my mates wouldnt hurt a fly.

Unfortunately life is all about stereotype it is compleatly wrong but that is what people do, it annoys the hell out me!!! Ok Rant over LOL

Yes see your point, but whats there reason when my mom actually came in with me, and I shop there like 5 times a week.

They probably think the same thing about your mum, this is stupid but there are a lot of sexist ageist people out there. Many years ago my cousin went to a garage to by a new car, the salemen where all over her telling her what she sould buy and what she shouldn't buy. They did not even ask her what she wanted the car for they just made assumptions. I went in with her the folowing week to buy the same car she initially wanted and guess what? They said it was a perfect car for her. They asked me what she wanted the car for etc.

Its completely wrong but it still does go on, thankfully not as much as it used to do.

yes this world hasnt alot of bad things in there. but also some good things at the same time...

You got to take it with a pinch of salt.

I will try when there is a different person in there

Good, keep on trying if it does not work the second time round, try going back whe nthe shop is full and speak loudly about the dead fish, you might be surprised at the result

i have to be careful what i say and do. in july i have doing a work placement there for two weeks and i dont want to be thrown out of it.

what size is the tank and how well stocked is it?
Also what was the ammonia reading?

tbh for 6 platys to cause an ammonia spike, there must have already been an underlying problem IMO, i.e, tank is overstocked or filter is too small etc..
And I must say if/when customers come into my workplace and they have ammonia present in their tanks then I wouldn't be refunding or replacing fish.

I think to be fair to the lfs if there is any sign of ammonia with fish deaths then they can argue that is why the fish have died, and they can not be held responsible. Now add to that a rise in Ph (from ammonia spike maybe) and the SMALLEST traces of ammonia become deadly to the fish.

Saying that he probably should not have sold you 6 platies in one go (no filter could adjust quickly enough unless massive!) so you could hit him from that angle I suppose!

Did he tell you the actual levels?

my tank had been set up for a month with 2 small plecos a small catfish and a small humbug in for the 3rd week. Thatd all i had it in till i added the 6 plattys... It is not over stocked and its 2.f ft with a fuval 105 external fliter.
