Grey Algae/fungas On Bogwood...kinda Like Moss

Noticed a good bit of my wood has started to get largish clumps of what looks like grey algae/fungus on it.

Alsmost looks like a moss of sorts.

This is a non planted tank with just bogwood, rocks and sand.

All fish seem good but worried it is a sign of something else.

Nitrite, Ammonia = 0, Nitrate can get a little high (but not overly so) but that is usual considering reading from tap and the food I feed my fish (I remedy with water changes).

Tank has been running without issue for years. Decor is rarely changed, last peice of wood was added around 6 months ago. Nothing else changed.

Just wondering what it is exactly and if it is safe.

I sometimes get this stuff in my tanks, & I do have a healthy mass of Java Moss. This stuff is much finer (not branched) but quite tough & only seems to grow in patches the size of a fingernail.

Fish won't eat it & it seems fairly indestructable, even if it breaks free of the bogwood.
I think it is harmless enough to leave in the tank, unless you think there might be a risk of it getting into your filters & clogging them up, alternatively you could simply pick it out & bin it
