i was unsure where to post this..

i added a 4" oscar to my aquarium about 2 weeks ago and my 4" gt took a huge disliking to him. so, after a few days of constant abuse i re-homed the gt in a seperate aquarium alone, hoping i will be able to put him back not long after.

any advice?

any help is most apreciated.

hi a welcome,
1st what size tank are we talking about?
you choose the cichlids from the shop, but they choose wether or not they like there tank mates, its as simple as that, you could get another gt and they will get on like a house on fire, trust me ive tried and tested a mutiple of different cichlids,,, so tank size please and other tank mates,,,,,,,if its constant non stop bullying then no it wont work

Since you added the oscar to the GT's tank, the GT probably thinks its 'his/her' tank and see's the oscar as an intruder. GT's are also aggressive fish, so there is a chance it just wont work. As Nelly says tank size is important, anything less than 75 gallons and it will probably wont work, and even then thats pushing it.

get both fish out of the tank, re-arrange the tank so neither knows of their zone, and re-add the fish

my tank size is 250 litres. i think you're right nelly, they just won't get along. i just added the gt about a half hour ago to see what would happen and everything went haywire, i had to just take him straight out.. i think i'm gonna end up housing him alone.. he's too beautiful to compromise.

Good idea. Worth a try rather than trying to re-house.

However, it may just be that the GT will never get along with the oscar.

Can you give the dimensions of the tank please? 250L isnt really big enough for a full grown Oscar, 75g tanks are really a minimum, a 55g can work but its usually not wide enough for a full grown Oscar.

The GT will probably always be best off on his own, some fish are like that, they just dont accept any other tankmates.

i will definitely not be trying to re-add the gt, i'll just house him alone.

thanks for your help everyone, much apreciated.
