What could a green terror comfortably live with? And in what size tank?

Ive heard loads of stories about them killing all tank mates and being the only fish left.

I was contemplating getting a 6 x 2 x 2 tank (680 Litres, 180 US Gallon) as a predatory tank, but now im thinking about a couple of large cichlids.

It wont be till next year or maybe the year after but just after come ideas.

Cheers

Well Im not saying this will work, but I currently have mine with an Oscar, a Severum, a Bichir, a ghost knife, a nicarguan, couple of common plecs and some daemons.

Aside from the severum, ghost and nicaraguan, these were all bought small and growing together, the Oscar far quicker than the others I may add.

Suprisingly the main problem is with the nic, who constantly chases the GT, but I know this will change as he's getting larger each day and will eventually be the chaser.

In a tank 6 x 2 x 2, you could add a couple of large cichlids, ie Oscar, Severum, Chocolate and maybe ok, on the other hand, it could all go badly wrong, its really trial and error with these cichlids, they could be placid or extremely aggressive, so whatever you add, you would need to be able/prepared to move at a moments notice.

Cheers for reply,

What dimensions are your tank?

I would be well happy with a GT, Oscar and Sev. Would probably get a decent pleco and a shoal of barbus denisonii.

Cool,

Bet thats a stunning tank to watch.

Would this be worth trying?

1 x Green Terror
1 x Oscar
1 x Rotkeil Severum
1 x Albino Pleco
8 x Torpedo Barbs or 12 x Odessa Barbs
6 x YoYo Loach

If i added all together at 1" or so.

Thanks

Gaz

You might lose the barbs and yoyo's to the Oscar in particular, who will eat anything that fits or he thinks will fit!!

Otherwise on the cichlid side of things, looks ok to me. Just be quick to move if the aggression gets out of control.

Okay, cheers.

Will probably give those a miss then.

Have you got any dithers in your big tank or not?

Do you find it okay without?

Cheers

Gaz

No dithers at all, although I must say the daemons sort of act like dithers as they are very active and stay together as a group shoaling around. The Bichir also is extremely active, so I can highly recommend one of those.

Is your birchir a senegal?

How aggressive is he compared to the others?

I will look at the demons now, not seen those before.

Would clown loach get bullied with the cichlids i listed? I know they get to a good size but they are fairly peaceful arent they.

Gaz

Clown loach should be fine, but you want they fairly well grown in comparison to the Oscar/GT, as again small ones might be seen as easy food for an O.

Yes I have a senegal, he isnt the least aggressive, gets on with everyone. The Daemons for now seem to be ignored by everyone, but Im waiting to see how they get on with the GT once he's fully grown.

Okay thanks very much for the replies.

Just researching senegal birchir now, fascinating fish!

Awesome, Have you got any tank pics?

I guess thats yours in your signature?

Where did you get them big pieces of wood from? They look like old roots?

Gaz

Yep thats the tank in question in the sig taken a few weeks ago, Ive actually just removed the large pieces of redmoor (they are for sale in the classifieds). There are also more pics somewhere in the pictures forum. I moved the redmoor to give them more free swimming space, now got loads of bogwood of varying sizes in there now to create hiding places, not that any of them has actually claimed an area of their own as yet.

Oh rite, sounds good.

I couldnt decide wether to go for lots of pieces of bogwood or big root type pieces in my current tank, it looks good in your sig though!
