Don't agree. Algae is caused by ammonia whether it's detectable or not. Therefore can't indicate a "healthy aquarium".

maybe try one of those magnet glass cleaners. I just hate adding chems to water, thats all.

Need to do a bit more research into healthy planted tanks with that statement.

Besides, adding a Plec isn't treating the underlying cause of the algae, it's just a measure in which you hope it will control it. The plants will still be suffering though, that's why the algae is apparent. Unhealthy plants leach ammonia and cause algae when combined with algae spores and light.
