my tank has it to its comon i think. get a good algae eater, comon pleck ect to keep it under control

please dont get a common plec if you dont have a 75g+ as they get to 15"+

a plec is out the question, i have a dwarf puffer set-up

when i say green algae, its the bright green stuff thats covering my substrate, its only in very small parts of the tank but i obviously dont want it spreading as ive read that it can kill your plants once it spreads too much

hmm im not sure then im still very new to the hoby and still lerning, almost forgot that comons grow masive. do you have your tank close to a window that has lots of sun, if so try moving the tank somwher the sun wont get on it. other than that i honestly dont know

plecs can go with puffers, just as long as its armored
less light works sometimes, and if you have no live plants do a black out

i did have a look at that and the only description i could find was for an algae that said i had poor water

the water reads perfect each and every week, but i did notice one algae type said it was because of very low nitrates, which my tank has as it is heavily planted

I have a feeling that it is the slime algae which is not actually algae as you know, it's a bacteria. Search the the internet for possible cures or follow the instructions the link gives.

If it is blue-green algae (the bacterial 'algae', cyanobacteria, slime algae) I got rid of mine by syphoning/scraping up all I could see up (It was mainly on sand and glass), cutting back all infected bits of plant, adding an airstone as the ventilation was going to be reduced, then covering the whole tank with aluminium foil (baco!) for three whole days. No peeking, feeding or cheating. After 3 days I did a large water change (50%) and again syphoned up anything that might have been dead slime. Fish were fine, plants were fine, haven't had any cyanobacteria since. That was about a year ago.

I did read that you can get rid of it with antibiotics but the method I used is the chemical free route. And all you need is bacofoil and patience.

im gonna take a few pictures of this algae when the sun goes down, but its starting to spread slightly and i dont see how it could be the blue-green algae because from what ive read it is caused by poor water conditions, and my tanks readins are perfect each and every week apart from zero nitrates(heavily planted tank does that im told)

pics to follow anyway so someone can try and help me out

here is the picture anyway

i really need this getting shut of ASAP, once again my water readings all came back perfect, with the only one being of slight concern is 0 Nitrates, which i THINK may be causing this problem

is this problem also only confined to gravel, as i was thinking of a substrate change to sand if it would help

i've seen those before, but my fishes clean them up after awhile. armored plecs are okay with your puffers. i'm not sure about ottos.
