Right, whats the best way to add some more gravel to my aquarium? or would i be silly to attempt it? i would like to add some finer gravel and i need more for the back of the tank for the plants to grow. I have fish and im not sure what to do about it. :)

After cleaining the gravel fully, just gently add it by handfulls (make sure to turn your tanks electric supplys off) as long as your gentle with it, you should be fine :)

I usually add gravel every time I do a water change (partial or whole). That works pretty well for me. But what the person above me suggested might work too. :)

remove some water from the tank before you add the new gravel otherwise you get a wet carpet :)

not always :)
even I have done it a couple of times. You just don't think about it and add some rocks or gravel. The next thing you know there is a waterfall cascading down the front of the tank and everyone is running for buckets and towels.

usually that comes with common sense right col?

"common" sense isnt that common !
right, the other day I stood there pleased as punch watching my python furiously finish filling the tank and then I suddenly realized it was going to go right over the top! I managed to rush and shut it off just in time and then bail out some of the now too high water, but for days after that I kept periodically muttering "stupid!" to myself.

I use a simple syphon tube and bucket.... when emptying the bucket, I place the ends in the tank - to keep it full of water, and when I return its often "flopped" out, and emptying the tank onto the carpet !! One day I'll learn ! LOL

Rooster, I do much the same but have learned to close the lid each time I walk away. No more wet carpets.
