im thinking about swapping gravel to sand, is it possible to mix the two to save stress on the fish or would you recomend removing all gravel?

has anyone else done this?

any hits/tips?

There have been manu posts on this forum about that question
do a search for sand and or gravel

heres a good one sand

I did swap out all gravels and replaced them with pool filter sand. I had to take out everything including the fishes because I moved the location of the tank at the same time.

As Tropjunky mentioned, this is a great time to do some serious maintenance on spots that are hard to get to...

Ya! My sister has half and half! We used play sand and used slate cobbles and stuff the keep the two apart it looks so cool and it rocks man! :fish:

Have a look at this thread franky here

This was set up not long ago with a similar question (my reply is in there somewhere as i've just done a gravel to sand change today :) )

I have it set up intentionally with gravel, rock and sand so it shouldn't stress your fish out at all.

i changed my gravel to sand the other day
i kept the fishes in and everything
first i scooped out all the gravel with a fish scooper( took like 2 min)
then i went and bought play sand I put it in a had like a 1 inch base
the water was really merky so be careful to shut off filters if you do switch
I had to do alot alot alot of water changes to get clear
personally i thought the play sand was ugly so i bought 5 lbs of silica white sand to put over the play sand.... lOOKES GREAT
way nice then gravel :D

I've got some gravel in my sand tanks. It just seems to look more natural, plus helps anchor the plants.
