is it going to be wise for me to use one of these if im using sand in my tank?

or will i likely lose half of it each time my tank is cleaned?

You should still use a vacuum, you just need to be careful so as not to suck all the sand up. It takes a fair bit of practice but a swirling motion just above will pick up most of the rubbish and minimise the sand you suck out.

Or what works is also just the hose from the vaccum. You have to be careful as it does suck some of your sand up at first until you get the hang of it all. But the nice thing with sand is the dirt usually stays on top of the sand so you don't have to work to hard to get it. :good:

Hey,

My gravel is quite light so i placed my thumb over the tube where the water comes out of to control the speed. This seams to work.

If you can locate a very small funnel with a large open end and fix that to the tank end of your pipe it will lessen the power of the 'suck'. Or just use a large bore pipe, say, hose pipe. A small bore pipe increases the amount of sucking power and up goes your sand! :hyper: Physics! :p
