I was hoping the gourami fans could help me out with a bit of a conflict in information I'm getting.

Is a 60x35x30cm (63 litre/16.6 US gallon) big enough to keep gourami's along with some minnows and danio's?
I've been told in no uncertain terms in another thread to get rid of the danio's and forget about gourami's, which doesn't tie in with what I've heard elsewhere.

Is a 63 litre tank big enough for a dwarf gourami pair? Obviously, if the consensus is that it isn't I'll follow that advice. I have fallen for gourami's in a big way though so I'm hesitant to give up on one persons say so.

what have you got exactly at the moment??

6 White cloud mountain minnows
5 Pearl danio's-all young, none bigger than 1.5 inches.

If the danio's do outgrow the tank I've got a potential home lined up for them.

Well the general rule of 1 inch of fish per gallon of water would make you over stocked if you got the gourami pair.
So you could remove the WCMM and take them back to the shop or sell them and if you had your pearl danios with your dwarf gourami pair that would be nice to look at and would work ok in the tank.

Oh right. So far I've been using a rule of 1.2cm of fish per litre of water, as per this article as I have an internal filter. And thats working on that websites stated max size, which from what I've seen ties in pretty well with what I've seen elsewhere.

I'm trying to apply a degree of common sense though-the danio's are surface dwellers, so I'm looking to give them their space up there and put in something else that will make the best of the middle of the tank and a heavily planted area towards the bottom right of the tank.

The inch/gallon rule doesn't work for gouramis as they are territorial fish. Your 63 litres should be enough for a pair of dwarfs, plus other fish. I only would not take a pair, as the male might hassle the female too much. It is better to take a trio (1 male, 2 females). Seen the size of the dwarfs, this should be possible in your tank.

I have no experience with danios, but normally gouramis are uncomplicated fish when it comes to other fish species. Only mollies seem to have a disliking for gouramis. Gouramis are territorial towards their own species and family members (including bettas!), but for the rest can be kept with many other fish as long as they don't occupy the (upper) level of the tank.

Thanks. I only intend to add the gourami's and a small plec so I'll see how I get on.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
