Hi,

I don't visit this part of the forum because I never had a gourami be4. SO, I need some help. I have a 12 gallon with about 4 in. left for another fish. It currently have 4 x-ray tetras and two female platies. 4 a couple years i've been dying 4 a blue dwarf gourami. I know that my tank is small 4 a dwarf but I really want one . I need to be prepared and I've been reading about them but i like to hear form personal opinions. I have a couple of questions:

1: What kind of food do they like? (best 4 their diet, ect )

2: Should I get a feamle?

3: Are they jumpers? Will they jump if I open the tank?

4: Rocks, Plants, ect?

Thanks 4 ur time,
sunpirate2u

P.S im going to the LFS in 30min.

Very impressive fish.

1. Mine does well on flakes.

2. Just get a male, they do fine on their own.

3. Mine doesn't jump.

4. They like plants and a few rocks.

Dwarf gouramis are very nice in colourations but may be hard to keep since they are very prone to diseases. You would be very lucky if your dwarf lives over a year. Gouramis are all jumpers, so you should have a top for your tank or you might just find it on the floor the next morning. They like to have plants or else they can be quite skittish.

Ok, so I got a male, planted tank, lid, flake food. So, how can I tell if he has a dieases?

Today is the 2nd day i've had him. He's hiding behind plants, is that because he's settling in? I gave him some food but he only ate the tiny pieces that came by him.
