OK, my dad just brought home a gourami that is sic.

symptoms:
~red dots on head. Mouth appears to be pink, thoe that could be natural coloration. Some dots seem to completely cover the scale. (again, I'm not sure If this is just it's natural coloration).
~not eating, even when I dropped some bloodworms in the water.
~Scratched against ornament (thoe that could have been because he/she wanted to get behind it. There are some rocks in the tank now, and he/she isn't scratching against those. Could be because they are smooth and small)
~Pooping up a storm, almost unnaturally. Poops are brown and look normal
~Fins are raged, probably fin rot
~timid

I'm not sure if all of these symptoms are a sign that he/she is sic, but I think that some of them are signs of something.

Anyway, If you know what's going on, please tell me.

background info:
~gourami is about three inches long
~My dad got him from... somewhere. He didn't tell me, so I am not prapaired to house him/her properly.
~Right Now: seems OK. It's active and shows no sign of pain (as far as I can tell).
~what kind of gourami: I don't know
~male or female: I don't know
~Where is it: In a bowl that's about 3 gallons big and well aerated. I know that that probably is to small, but right now It's all I've got. Again, I wasn't prepared to house him.
~Filtration: None at the moment :(

thanks for your help :)

Red dots can be septicemia to parasites.

Does the fish dart or swim erratic.
Any excess mucas on the body of the fish.
Do the gills look pale with excess mucas or red and inflamed.
Does the fish swim in a jerky movment.

If the fish wasn't flicking I would of said septicemia.

The gills look fine. The Gourami oftan doesn't move, is timid, and swims backwards (this might be to escape the net)

The fish needs treating for septicemia. Hard to cure once it progresses.

What's your location.
Does the bowl have a heater.

no. I don't have one at the moment. I'm going to get a heater soon.

Also, are you sure it's septicemia? It seems like it's very serious.

So, asuming that it is septicemia, what should I do?

I'm probably going to get a wide spectrum andibiotic, and I'll seen about a heater.

I live in the US

UPDATE: ON Massive water change regime. 50% every day.

Maracyn plus, tetracycline.

Red spots on skin can be caused by: <br />Regarding the small red dot, small pinprick like haemorrhages (called petechiae) can be due to a local lesion, a generalised septicaemia or toxaemia caused by acute viral and bacterial

Ok.
Good Luck.

Let us all know how you get on if you don't mind.

OK, I put in the Maracyn plus. About half a cup, since this bowl is about 2.5 gallons. I turned of the airator and I will not be doing any water changes to make sure he/she gets it all. I will be doing a dose every other day, like it sias on the instructions

You need an airstone running as med reduce 02 in the water.
When you do water changes you just add the correct amount of med back to water removed.

Hows the fish doing?

so far so good. The Gourami is spending allot more time at the surface, which I think is a good sign. Also, the fish is allot more active and less timid. I also cleaned out some red dots from the bottom of the tank. Parasites? or just some food I missed.

fingers crossed
