got a couple of stunning angel fish today 1 is a kind of graphite greyish bluey type colour with black stripes and an almost metalic sheen the other is black and white marbled with a yellow face and a seriously tall dorsal fin not sure what type they are but will get some pics posted when they have had a bit of time to settle in . they are fairly small at the moment . how quickly do they grow ?

Sounds like a black hybrid & gold marble veil to me. Dime body size is about 8-10 weeks, nickel body size around 12-14 weeks, quarter body size around 4-5 months, half dollar around 7-8 months.

just googled them and after comparing pics i have got a golden marble and a zebra both are just under 2" body size so quite young. looking forward to seeing them develop

When Tolak says "body size", I imagine he is talking about just body size (minus fins).

thats how i understood it too thats what im talking about when i say body size ie not including the long fins etc . they were pretty much impulse buys altho not completely inconsidered ie i know i have big enough tank / suitable tankmates etc . only popped into lfs for some dechlor and livefood. just couldnt resist em

gonna read up on them now to see about growth rates / special requirements etc to see if there is anything i havent got in the tank that they need to feel settled altho to be ffair they seem to have settled quite quickly

thanks shelagh still trying to find the right setting to get my camera to take decent pics through the glass without the flash. ran the battery flat last night trying!! gonna have another go today

Mark, just a word of caution, watch the severum and acara with those angels as they reach maturity, there shouldnt be any trouble, but you never know, they can turn at any time.

do you mean the severum and the acara could turn or the angels? if you mean the acara and severum the acara can be a little tetchy at times but its never more than just chasing fish away from his "patch" and the severum is growing like a madman hes already almost 6" and hes a big old pussycat very laid back in fact hes a good guy to the point that my kribs are behaving in a way that suggests they have eggs under a rock and they chase everything away from it all except the sev . yesterday the angels were being nosey round the rock the male krib tried to see them off but sev got in between them and protected the angels and wouldnt let the krib get at them. no agression just got his body in the way . hes a good old stick . if you mean the angels could turn then both the sev and acara can look after themselves

Yeah I meant the sev and acara could get aggressive to the angels, sounds like a nice tempered sev :D As I say they should be ok, just wanted to give you a heads up, just in case.

i know what you mean ive had that before with a red tailed black shark he was a pussycat in the 3ft tank but as soon as i put him in the big tank he turned into a complete psycho and went round kicking crap out of everything. got that bad he had to be removed . yeah my sev is a good guy he seems to be the tanks peacekeeper
