my nearest MA had some wild caught specimens. Never seen these (wild or captive bred) in any fish shop since I started the hobby. Only his first day in the tank so hoping the colours will intensify over time....

sadly I cleaned the glass BEFORE I took these.....must try harder!

I was in an MA (Earlswood) last week and they had these in, i was so so tempted. But realisticly i don't have a tank for them to go in so i passed them by. But they are stunning fish, and by all accounts adult specimens i've seen have been stunning little fish. Certainly a fish i'd love to keep at some point, maybe when my 3ft is free next i might give them a go.

You'll have to post more pics as they fully mature and settle down in your tank :)

sadly I just got the 1. Was a replacement for a recently lost Bolivan Ram. At £15 each I wasn't massively tempted to buy more.....

Price of fish is worth every penny! Haha. Most of the time, although £2 per rummynose tetra is #138##-ridiculous if you ask me. That coming from someone who has spent £93 on 3 different plec's in the last 2 months. Hmmm....i still think its worth it.

You've got me thinking about a biotope with just a pair of these critters in a 60/70L tank now, with some japonica shrimp. Maybe a rummynose or two :hey:

Wow, he's a beautiful fish, Zod. I've been tempted to get one as my LFS sells them quite cheaply but I don't have the room atm. Very jealous

cheers Carl. The pics don't do the bright blue facial markings any justice.

Hi Zoddyzod,

they are indeed lovely fish, he will soon settle in and start to colour up. Got a pair from Wharf aquatics middle of last year but they werent wild caught.

Unfortunatley I lost one of mine but the other is doing fine (not as pretty looking as yours though, not as much red in the dorsal and tail fin).

Think they show better colouration in pairs or groups.

Might have to get another one now I have seen your pics :)

Had to say goodbye to this fish a couple of weeks ago. After 5 months of him being a pleasant member of the community he suddenly developed an unhealthy obesssion with my angelfish. He became so aggressive that the angel was forcing himself into places that were too small and ripping scales off his side.

Was a shame to see him go as he had coloured up nicely and got very plump. Was also probably the most interesting fish to watch. I've got a suspicion that due to being wild caught he eventually got fed up with sharing such close quarters with other cichlids.

The LFS who took him back sold him within 24hrs......hopefully to a good home!

Ahhh, sorry to hear that. He looked a beauty! Certainly making me want them more and more, although from your experience i may try a species tank in my 180 paludarium (in the making).

Was a bit odd. Didn't see a hint of aggression for 5 months then just seemed to snap. However, I've also noticed that my Rams are now rarely showing their dark 'stress' lines so he may have been aggresive for a while without me knowing.

Would love to have had a breeding pair, but size of tank and all the local specimens being seemingly male stopped that idea!
