I've heard that Gourami can be aggressive with snails and I haven't heard anything about Red-Tailed Black Sharks being aggressive with them. I have 9 and was wanting to put at least three of them in there, though not if they'll become an expensive meal for the fish. The gourami I have are 3 Spot, not adult sized yet though one is juvenile sized, the other is smaller.

My RTS nips at my snails. And every so often eats a pond snail. But they have lived this way for almost a year. But alot of fish nip at snails but few really try to eat a big snail, until it dies then it becomes a buffet.

These are only about an inch or so in diameter so not too small but not overly large either. They're about a third the size of my large Golden snail, "Mr Magoo." Anyhow, the shark is still relatively small, only an inch or so himself. These are Bridgesi so they'll get quite large, once they grow to adult size.

My rams would nip at my snails, and my angelfish when I had them. But, they aren't serious about it and the snails just hole up in their shells and they're just fine. A few fish nips isn't going to bother the shell :)

they have shells right?? ;)
Yes but they also extend their antenna, eyes and foot which are unprotected. My large Golden snail used to roam around with his inside the shell because my female Bettas would nip at them, now that they're out, he has them extended all the time.

yea i know i was just messing around. I have 2 1.5" golden apple snails, a 2" mystery snail and a 1" ivory somethin or other in my 46 gallon community - the tiger barbs are the notorious nippers of snails in my tank...but they all manage just fine.

But they're not the same as Gourami or RTB's which I'm more concerned about. I have a breeder net so I might stick a snail or two in there, see how the fish react to the snail, if they try to nip at them through the net or if they leave them alone then let the loose in the tank, I just don't want to do that and find out over night they managed to peck my snail to death.

Teelie, I had my snails when I had rosy barbs and rainbowfish which are a bit nippier than cories or even the rams I mentioned. When I first added the snails, the rosy barbs and rainbowfish did nip at them, but as soon as they realized they weren't food, they quickly started to just ignore them.

Good luck with the snails :)
