I got it, finally, showing
7.6 ph both on my tap water and tank, the test was maybe more blue than the comparing chart.
Ammonia 2.0ppm
Nitrite 0.0ppm (sad about this)
NItrate tap water 40ppm
Nitrate tank water 40 ppm

I guess I'm still right at the start of my cycle and wishing (like loads of others) mine will be different and be done far more quickly......................ahhhhhhhhh, not the case

my nitrites didnt show till day 14 or something (might have even been later)

there is a funny thing, before I bought the API master kit I bought two kits made by Nutrafin, the nitrite kit shows some colour suggesting there is nitrite in my tank compared to no colour using my tap water ? The API kit shows a different blue for Nitrite on my tap water and my Tank water Blue meaning no Nitrite ??

I guess I am just another newbie really wanting something, testing everyday (twice) ahhh

Have you used the high range pH test? The standard pH test only goes up to 7.6 if I remember. If it's looking more blue than that you may need to use the high range pH test which goes from 7.4 to 8.8 I think.

Lol, keep the faith!! I felt the same way, took six weeks for me :)

I tested the water again and the tap water to compare, my tap water is registering 7.4 on higher test but my tank water (cycling) is 8.2, but I did read that the water in a cycle will be all over the place and now so am I ..... off to bed now

8.2 is an ideal pH for a cycling tank as it allows the bacteria to breed more quickly :)

Thank you for that, I will tell you this, that for one thing, I thought I would be happy and calm watching fish (which I don't have yet) I went to the LFS and got very personnel with some fishes I don't know, I thought, "I got to have some", and now I am frustrated, but second I can see I need (want) to provide a home that is balanced and right, and this is indeed teaching me something..........

I remember that feeling! I was lucky that for most of my cycle I didn't know what fish I wanted. I knew I wanted fish and whenever I went in the shop it'd be all "They're all so pretty! I want fish!" but when it comes down to actually selecting some, it's a whole different story.

I don't know which fish I would like, I want to have plants as well

I know the feeling. I always spend ages looking at the fish even though I dont have space in my tank for any more. One time I had to pop to the LFS to get something and my mum was with me. Mum, one does not simply go to the LFS, get what you need and then leave.
