So I decided after much deliberation that I should return my three angels back to the shop. Had them just under a year in my 190 litre tank but realise that pretty soon they are going to grow and start seeing my other fish as tasty treats!!

So that's about 18 inches of fish gone. Any thoughts on what I could replace them with? I love severums but they would be worse than angels. I have pearl gouramis, can you put other gouramis in with them, say dwarf gouramis?

what fish did you have the angels with? It's not a 100% certainty that they'd see any small fish as a snack....unless you are talking micro fish?

True, but that is 3 Angels in a 190 litre, probaly a bit of a push stock wise.

Take 2 back & keep your favorite would be my admitedly often wrong advice.

Tom

For me 190 liters is not a bad size for Angels? What are the dimensions and what is the height?

I agree with Zod, Angels are a little predatory but its not out and out like some fish - what are the tank mates?

Angels will eat the Neons, they are their natural prey. Rehome them & get some cardinals, bigger, tougher, & more colourful than Neons.

I have successfully kept Angels with neons and many other tetra, but I'm not sure what would happen if the Angels were fully grown and underfed. The way it was, my angels were fed and got to about 6".

Also 190l would be fine for angels, just depends on the height really

not guarenteed to happen at all. As above, I also keep angels (6 adults) with 20 neon.....no bother at all. Can work quite happily.

the issue with 3 angels might be if a pair forms and the weakest is picked on. Could also happen if a pair doesn't form as well.

I would be very worried about this ^^^^
Every time I've had 3 angels, this has happened - I'd be very wary of leaving all 3, but once 2 have bonded I'd remove the third back to the lfs, otherwise it WILL end up dead.

The neons is a variable thing. Some people can't keep them together, but others can. Angels are cichlids, and as such demand a certain amount of allowance in terms of their aggression. As long as you keep that in mind and watch your fish carefully for any behaviour changes or disappearing fish then I think you'll be ok.

I guess ultimately it depends in what is the central point of the fish tank - the angels or the smaller fish?

Ok so I am now minus three angel fish which has freed up a hell of a lot of room in my tank. Already looks better for it and dare I say the more timid fish have come out of their hiding places. Very difficult getting the Angels out, those blighters are quick!! Now I am in no rush to fill the void they have left but would like a duo, about 6 inches max when fully grown. Already got pearl gouramis. Any ideas?

Yes, you can add Dwarf Gouramis or Honey Gouramis to a tank with Pearl G's.

An Angel had picked off my shoal of Cardinals, 1 a night for 10 days. Seemed to be a bit of a bully do I handed it back to the LFS. Used the store credit for more Cardinals ;)

Pleased someone managed to keep their tetras though! :)
