I live in Suffolk but don't mind travelling. I am looking for somewhere where the staff are knowledgeable and there is a large stock of items that I might need to set up a tank for the first time. I have been away from the hobby for many years and so need some guidence abut also looking for inspiraction as far as decoration goes.

The familly would also like to check out the range of fish we could have in such a tank.

Any suggestions?

Place down south (im in Leeds!) called Wildwoods always gets mentioned but i have never been.

Wharf aquatics nr nottingham is pretty awesome, wins PFK retailer of the year regularly and has a real variety of trops and saltys

they are the two that spring to mind initially but im sure others will pitch in!

Thanks for the suggestions. Wildwoods are doable. Although from what you say Nottingham sounds like worth a vist.

Hi
Depending on whereabouts in Suffolk you are and how far you want to travel, there is Maidenhead aquatics at Crowland near Peterborough who have a huge range of fish and equipment.
On the other end of the scale is Ely aquatics just behind Tesco at Ely.They are a very small shop but I have found them to be very friendly and helpful and although they have a smaller choice of fish there, they all look in rude health.
:)

And I can highly recommend Walsoken aquatics just off the A47 outside Wisbech in north Cambs.
They have a website which you could google for.

Dunno about the one at Southend,a bit far away for me,but another vote here for Walsoken aquatics.I've bought most of my fish from there and have found them to be helpful to me as a newbie,as well as stocking some lovely fish ... definitely not to be confused with Pondworld, which is nearby off the A47 and stocks an upsetting variety of diseased and dead/dying fish

We went to Walsoken at the weekend and were very impressed with the owners and their helpfulness. The fish seemed to be in good health as well. We then went onto Maidenhead aquatics near Peterbrough, and were very impressed with the level of stock of both fish and equipement. The fish looked in fantastic shape there too. The Staff were very helpful and patient as we looked through the various equipement that we needed.

Both places are on our list to revisit when we need to buy some fish.

Thanks for all the recomendations, I would never have found those places on my own!

I can second walskoken aquatics. Fantastic shop and the staff are evry knowlegable and i have sene them stand there ground when a customer has tried to buy a fish that would not be suitbale for there tank (common plec for a 20g pretty much fully stocked tank).

Whatever you do though dont go to (do go to see how bad it is) the Pond shop just down the road from walskoken aquatics

yeah we like maidenhead in p'borough

sad as we are we go there when we visit my family!

Lol,It's not just me that thinks that then!
My other half went the other day as I'd bust the heater for my Betta tank and didn't think Walsoken was open on Sunday.
He had a browse round the fish section as you do,and they had several tanks with whitespot and/or corpses in,and a tank with what he thought were pink kissing gouramies all flopped on the bottom of the tank dying or already dead.He took a pic on his phone he was so shocked, but it wasn't very clear.I bet there were at least 8 or 9 in there though.
I don't go there anymore.It's too upsetting.
I know I should say something but they aren't the friendliest people either...maybe an anonymous letter to an animal welfare organisation is in order.

I have said something and was told 'if u dont like it then go else where'

These ppl believe in pure profit just look at the two brand new range rovers out front with personal plates POND ***

When i am up i do make the effortto pop in and last time i did go ive got to say there was a vast improvment but it was still shocking.

I tell ppl who i see who r going to buy fish to go else where and reccomend walsoken or even the one in murrow.
