Good Tropical Freshwater Equipement And Or Fish Stockists

If there are any fish you REALLY want but can't find locally, I can heartily recommend Trimar Aquatics (they're on the net). Many people I know have had fish delivered and they've always arrived in fabulous condition. VERY knowledgable staff too, which unfortunately isn't always the case these days.

Dunno about the one at Southend,a bit far away for me,but another vote here for Walsoken aquatics.I've bought most of my fish from there and have found them to be helpful to me as a newbie,as well as stocking some lovely fish ... definitely not to be confused with Pondworld, which is nearby off the A47 and stocks an upsetting variety of diseased and dead/dying fish

Pondworld grrrrr. bad bad place for fishies.

Whatever you do though dont go to (do go to see how bad it is) the Pond shop just down the road from walskoken aquatics

Lol,It's not just me that thinks that then!
My other half went the other day as I'd bust the heater for my Betta tank and didn't think Walsoken was open on Sunday.
He had a browse round the fish section as you do,and they had several tanks with whitespot and/or corpses in,and a tank with what he thought were pink kissing gouramies all flopped on the bottom of the tank dying or already dead.He took a pic on his phone he was so shocked, but it wasn't very clear.I bet there were at least 8 or 9 in there though.
I don't go there anymore.It's too upsetting.
I know I should say something but they aren't the friendliest people either...maybe an anonymous letter to an animal welfare organisation is in order.

send a letter to Vanessa at fenland district council. She is the animal welfare officer who issues the licence and is a hard nut where poor animal care is concerned. She is a good friend of mine.

I have said something and was told 'if u dont like it then go else where'

These ppl believe in pure profit just look at the two brand new range rovers out front with personal plates POND ***

When i am up i do make the effortto pop in and last time i did go ive got to say there was a vast improvment but it was still shocking.

They know diddly squat about animals. They have a little dog in the shop with them and when I was last there just looking, they had it tied up by the lead to the counter. He was yelping and crying. I asked why they tied him up and was told, he runs off and won't come back. Surely that's basic training. I told him to invest in a nice big dog cage where he could sleep, have food and water and not get as stressed as being tied on 2 foot of lead. The bloke looked confused and said he had never heard of a dog cage.
They always have tanks with dead fish in. Not one or two dead fish in the odd tank but tanks with 6 or 7 dead ones like some silver dollars I saw once and nearly every tank too. I'm glad they have stopped selling parrots though but they have various reptiles and tortoises and have given me wrong info on tortoises before. Luckily I doubt they will be in business for long as they never seem to have any customers in.Certainly with a great lfs (walsoken) just literally around the corner, they won't be able compete. I might pop along when they have a closing down sale to see if I can get a bargain lol.

Thanks for that,I may well do.

The thing that bugs me is,if I owned a shop like that I'd be embarrassed and ashamed at the state of my fish room.Putting the fishes welfare aside for a minute,it's also a bad way to run a business.

I only bought fish from them once, just after I took the hobby up,and a couple of days later had a nice case of whitespot in my tank...bit scary for a newbie!

It's not that the tanks are dirty ,just full of death. It's ignorance and neglect on a grand scale.

If I get round to writing I will keep you posted.

I used to live in wisbech and that place has changed its name SOOOOOOOOOOOO many times it closes down for a few weeks then opens under a new name but the same ppl run it. this is the longest ive seen the one name there,

The only thing they have that is impressive there is there koi carp.

Did u ever see there attempt at a marine section????? eeek

oh and they sell dyed glass fish, axeltoies (like newts ish) to ppl who have communite tanks.

Fenwomen: You have been to the fish shop in Murrow I find th eold guy who runs it very rude but knowledgeable and a decent fish.......Just shame about the manners as allt eh fish keepers i know aroudn that area stay away for that reason

Just another thing I forgot.
I've also seen dyed glassfish in there, and what look suspiciously like dyed parrots.
When I was green as grass and still finding out where the local places were,I went in a few times.
I made the fatal mistake of nearly buying some kind of silver shark cat cos it was beautiful, but was hesitant as I hadn't done any research on it.
The guy was quite happy to sell it to me stating when I queried it's adult size, wait for it.."they grow to the size of the tank"..thank goodness I hesitated (well that and my b/f wouldn't let me until I'd checked lol)
So glad I discovered Walsoken soon after otherwise my fishkeeping hobby may have been short-lived between there and Pets at Home in Lynn!!

Glad im not the only one who seen the Dyed Fish,

They had every colour going and when i asked the bloke about them (i was a complete newbie then) he said it was natural and would make a good addition to my tank........... and when i enquire about about a common pleco he said that a 'common pleco would not do well on its own and needed to be in groups of 3 or more'. 'which he would be happy to sell me'. ......... For my then 100 litre tank.
