Hey guys just recently set my 55 gallon long tank for breeding HRPs. Right now this is the current stocking.

filter: powerhead, 2 HOB filters
Substrate: medium sized gravel
decor: tennessee 2' slate
plants: java fern, amazon sword
stock: 2 3inch giant danios, 7 tiger barbs, 2 female HRP, 2 male HRP

just wondering if you guys think is setup will work for optimal breeding of the HRPs, anything i should add or take out? what do you think

hoping to post some pictures of the entire tank setup soon!

Sounds good to me so far, if anything I would up the danio so they were at least 4. Would really like pictures as well :)

One HRP breeder to an other ;) - have a spare fry tank Ive found my fry are growing at uneven rates, Ive got some giants and some tiny ones but so far my outlet for them is not really interested in them till the smallest are at least an inch. As a result my long term plans are now a series of tanks in the near future rather than just the 240g. Its now the 6ft + 2 x 2ft + 1x3ft and then theres the other tanks for the other fish....

If you want optimal Breeding avoid other fish.

Literally all you need is 1 male and 1 female and they will breed very quickly......really easy fish to breed.

yeah i know.... :( i really could careless whether i had the tiger barbs and danios i more or less got them just as dithers. i talked to an expert who has bred tons and tons of fish and he said even if it seems crowded, its better to have dithers so the HRPs will feel more comfortable to breed. when i just had the 4 HRPs in the tank they were always hiding and very skidish. i guess when the tank is empty they think in there heads that all the other fish have swam away or are hiding because a predator is present. so having the other fish "not as smart as cichlids" swim around actually makes the HRPs more comfortable. so ill try it out, they are easy enough to breed from what i have heard that i shld have much of problem either way, but thanks for the suggestion
