Hi, does anyne have any good aquatic plant books they recomend? I have one or two but was after one with more general care / layout advice etc.

Does Amano have books for sale in the UK - has anyone read them?

Thanks a lot,
Simon.

I have all three Amano books; "Nature Aquarium World" vol 1 to 3. I think they're more useful as inspiration rather than science but they are beautiful books. It does explain the art behind aquascaping too. Stunning reading - makes one's tank feel rather inadequate!!

For the high-tech perspective then "The Big Dennerle Guide" is great. It is a big advert for their products but has some good theory and an excellent plant database in full-colour photography. There's some good aquascapes too.

For a real "heavy" read (no pics) then Diana Walstad's "Ecology of the Planted Aquarium" is brilliant. It focuses on the low-tech side and is full of proper science. Not really for the beginner though.

A good overall book ideal for the beginner is Peter Hiscock's "Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants".

http://www.amazon.co.uk stock all of these except the Dennerle book.

Hi m8 , i have 2 Amano books - aquarium plant paradise and nature aquarium world book 1.
Plant paradise gives you set ups and and build tips on a few of his tanks and is a pretty good book.
Nature aquarium is a bit more indepth with stunning pictures(dont buy it, trust me your tank will never ever look good to you again lol)
Amazon stock these books- www.amazon.co.uk
Must admit im looking for a book myself that goes into the upkeep of the plants rather than types of plants.

thanks both - amano books sound great! i'd like one which has "upkeep" tips - "what to do when....." sort of thing, but i'll go look on amazon at amano now!

Got to agree with gf225, i've got "Nature Aquarium World" vol 2 and 3 which have some great photography in but not too hot on the reading front, they do give you great ideas and basics on the setups

I have "The Big Dennerle Guide" but that is because i have most of there products and need to know how to use them to get the best out of my system

I also have two of Peter Hiscock's books "Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants" and "Aquarium Designs" both are quite helpfull and give ideas and amazon.co.uk is a great place for cheap books :D

im still looking if the local bookstores here have those books :( i find it too expensive to have the amano books imported :(

right now i only have the internet as reading material :(

I bought 'Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants' (Peter Hiscock) on ebay, got it yesterday and after having a flick through it seems like an excellent book.

It describes factors such as light, substrate, filtration, some fish, plants and layout. Also describes the chemistry, etc.

Ecology of a Planted Aquarium is a very good book. I especially like the fact that the author challenges many of the aquarium "norm" and backs it up with good old science.
