Good Pets?

OK. Please do not say they breed like rabbits because rabbits can only breed every 2 months so it sorta makes me mad when people say that.

well, they have babies about every 6 weeks and have about a dozen at a time. so if they don't breed like rabbits, they at least breed like mice!

it just sorta makes me mad when people say that. It also is not healthy for a rabbit to breed EVERY 2 months. They can die from that.

We just had grandfish from one of the first Platys we accidentally bred. She was a small fish, but popped out 12 babies.

When we put her back in the main tank, she kept her fins tighly clamped - she won't be doing that sort of behaviour so soon again...

It's just a saying....surely you've heard it before?

Though technically, if they are kept with a male constantly they can *physically* breed every month or so ;) But i'm sure no rabbit keeper on this site would be that irresponsible - though maybe the wild bunnies might ;)
Anyway, i'll stop being pedantic - 'breeding like rabbits' is just a phrase for things that produce lots of babies. Which, if you left a male a female rabbit together....they would.

So anyway, back to the question, if you are keeping male and female mollies in the same tank together, then it is likely they will breed and produce a fair number of offspring. They will probably make a meal of the little ones, but if they survive you just need to make sure that any extra young won't overstock your tank, or have a plan B of getting rid of any that you don't want to keep. :)
