hiya i recently purchased a bigger aquarium. is bene delivered but is this idea worth doing or to be avoided.

transfer all sand/fish/plants etc into the new tank and 100% of aquarium water + parafenalia.

put all existing matured filter medium into newcompatable filter and top up tank with conditioned water?

please let me know the pros and cons of this. my last water change was done on saturday night.

dear Gary
the pros and cons of what you are about to do are as follows:
pros:
fish are happier and have more space to move around, overall gill movement radius is increased
fish respect you more because they know you have lots of money
cons:
harder to feed and harder for fish to find the food because the tank is bigger
it takes a lot of effort
there is a chance of error when transporting fish from one tank to another what if they fall on the ground and you accidently step on them?
overall i think it is clear which choice is better
sincerely

i like fish just like you iam so glad i can share my passion for fish with other people. it is true that i have watch finding nemo more then the average person but this doesn't make me strange. i love fish so much i left my boyfriend cause he didnt like fish, now i will live alone with my fish and we will love each other for eternity and beyond. so back to the question i will answer it with another question would your fish like this? just ask them one time and you'll work it out

ok thanks very much, i wasnt sure if i would of created new tank syndrome due to something over looked but i guess not!

that should keep me busy tomorrow morning.

now i'll just try not to freak out the silver dollars too much on the move.. all 2 meters across the room

Well, you -will- want to treat it just like a fish-in cycle.. ie. testing twice a day for a while to be sure you haven't mini-cycled. But probably it will be totally smooth.

I would expect all to go well for you Gary. The filter media that you already have are a proven commodity with your present stock levels so there should be no real cycle that happens. The water is not really necessary but it couldn't hurt. The fish will need to work a bit harder to find their food but a little work is good for your fish. The more minor challenges they face in their simple lives, the better their quality of life becomes. Working to find nutrients is not a bad thing, it is the natural situation for any fish outside our tanks. If the fish are given something to do, even something as simple as finding food in an aquarium, they do better in the long run.

well its all done now, took just over 2 hours including changing a stand for my other aquarium. seeing the silver dollars in the bigger tank has made me realise just how little room they had in the old tank. hopefully they will be happy in here althogh they have beee in hiding since the move. the only thing is.... im not sure it suites the room!
