Good Fish To Breed

im really worried about the ph, maybe i should just get some nicaruaga cichlids, let them breed, and sell some of the fry. There must be some market and my water is ideal for them

Its up to you. It is quite high for Geos but i think you could just get away with it but it is perfect for the Nics. All the Geos you said get quite big and are quite common, if you do go for Geos something like Geophagus pindare, iporangensis or there not a Geo but they are Earth eaters like Geos Biotodoma cupido.

what would you do if you were me
I would probably go for a big shoal of one of the smaller Geos and try breeding but it really is up to you. Or maybe a Pair of Seveums there normally fairly adaptable to PH.

so you believe the geos would work?
If you acclimatise them well and keep all the other water qualitys perfect i dont see why not. On second thoughts it might be best to go for F1s so they have been brought up in tank conditions so they should be a little more forgiving on the PH.

most of the cichlids will
breed in the full range
of 7 as most of them were
bred in the range of 7
and i wouldn't worry
about it

Before breeding to sell reverse engineer it. Go to local shops, ask around local clubs. What sells well here might not sell well at all 100 miles away, I've seen that time & time again. It's very local, and can change rather quickly depending on breeders flooding your local area with that species, or a larger breeder dropping out.

Find the species folks are looking for, pick the one that fits what you can handle as far as space, water, and experience, then have at it. As far as your water & pH, hardness has not been mentioned. This is often more important than pH when breeding, and is another water parameter which must be taken into account.

Plan for more tank space for growout & holding, half the shops that say they will buy them will back out when you have fish ready. Look for deals on used tanks, empty tanks cost nothing to run, you will never find a deal on one if you suddenly need space. Run spare filters for the empties, by cloning you will have an instantly cycled tank.

Consider the diet of adults being conditioned for spawning as well as actively breeding. Also take into account food for newly hatched fry, this most often means setting up & running a baby brine shrimp hatchery.

My hardness is 7 i believe. Im not currently at home so i cant remember if it was kh or gh that was 7
