what would be good feature fish to put in a comm tank, im buying a new tank soon about 55 gal, im gonna get a bottom dwelling shoal and a mid layer shoal, all suggestions welcome :P

pretty fish!

A small eel maybe?

Bichir?

Check the oddball section of the forum, they always have a good lot of fish :)

A few gouramis might look nice, depending on what else you're putting in. Most of them stay towards the top of the tank, and they come in a wide array of colors.

great idea i love the harlequin rasboras, im not so keen on the eal though and would kuhli loaches be ok in the tank if i was to get 3? im not sure on how big the get

hmm i think they are well cool! how many would be ok as a small bottom dweller shoel, 120l tank its just i heard they kinda hide...

If your not planning on many other bottom dwellers or anything predatory, any number above ten would be good. The bigger the group the more active they tend to be, especially if you give them a way of 'hiding in plain sight'.

How big is this tank? In post 1 it's 55 Gal, in post 7 it's 120L which is about 27 Gal. Huge difference to what you can stock.

Go for a shoal of 5 or so Red Line Torpedo Barbs for the mid layer (see my avatar) if it's a 55, forget it if it's a 30. Best get ready to whip your wallet out though, they're not cheap where I'm from.

In a 55, and possibly even a 30, you can pretty much disregard the bioload of a few khulis IMHO, provided you don't go crazy. They are pretty far from a 'shoal' though. They do hide a lot, and when they are out and about they wriggle around like worms more than anything else. Surprising turn of speed if you get one spooked though. Get at least 5 or 6 min if you do go this route.

hmm if i were to get the kuhlis could i get any other fish for the bottom?

I guess that depends on what size the tank is.. as mentioned in the previous reply.
