One of my bettas does not eat any form of "regular" food (Hikari Bio-Gold and several other brands) anymore. I am feeding him bloodworms, but now that I've looked into constipation (as I thought my female had it), I see this is a bad idea. The only problem is he won't eat anything else (I haven't tried any larva or eels, etc.) - but I'm sure he will eat baby brine shrimp (I'm going to PetSmart today to pick up some eggs to hatch).

I was thinking I'd feed him peas on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and bloodworms Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Does that sound like a good diet?

Thanks!

I can't help with what you're doing.

What I usually do is make a food mush of pellets and fresh foods- my bettas LOVE it. Crush up some pellets, fresh stuff like a couple peas and also something for protein, and add a few drops of water just to get the consistency right. It's easy to make and you can freeze it and just defrost scrapings as needed. You can use a mortar and pestle or a food processor.

Maybe he has just gotten a little too picky. Try giving one bloodworm and one pellet in a meal. Usually they are so greedy that the gobble both after seeing the bloodworm. Do this for a few days, then try the pellets only. If he is picky still, fast him for a day, then try again.

Good luck. :good:

He'll probably eat other types of frozen foods like adult brine shrimp. Like you said, it's not a good idea to feed bloodworms all the time. You should also really try to get him to eat some kind of pellet, for vitamins and other things frozen food lack.

I think BBS are too small for adult bettas. If they even see them at all, you'll have to feed a whoooole lot for just one meal... you can grow the shrimp to adulthood if you want (you'll have to feed them and whatnot), but lots of pet stores sell live food as well.
