Hey, could someone suggest a good diet for texas and firemouth cichlids? currently feeding the hikari gold floating pellets, doing great on um colors are wonderfull. I dumped in 8 ghost shrimp havn't seen one since they were chasen em but dont know if they got em they maybe hidin real good. Also, is it ok if they get a sinkin wafer every now and then from my botia loaches? thanks

Mabey some flakes for cichlids or some crisps or granules. Couldnt give you a specific brand name, but its good to incorporate lots of different foods. Its better for their diet and color.

I prefer a pellet food for bigger cichlids and add some prawn and fish to their diet to add variation. Fresh/ frozen prawn, white bait, blue sardines, squid, etc are all suitable for them to eat. Just cut if up into small pieces and offer them a few bits at a time. If used in conjunction with a good quality dry food they should do really well.

An important thing to remember with the texas especially, is to feed them their greens (veg), as this makes up a significant part of their diet in the wild.

Ok, what vegs do they like? right now they are only about 2-2.5 inches. Also where should I buy the cut fish or squid, and are frozen bloodworms any good?

Pea's go down well, I just blanch them and remove the outer shell, other veg includes lettuce, cucumber, carrot and zucchini are a good start, though theres probably others your texas will like.
