Hey, im relatively new to keeping fish.

I wanted to get a 30-40 gallon tank, and keep a freshwater community. I'm a beginner so im not looking for anything too difficult, i looked through your index for a good while, and found it very helpful (cheers). I wrote a list, in my town we have a pretty decent set of tropical aquariums up where i live, its only four species, and i probably wont buy all four, but in your opinion do you think they will work well together:

Flagtailed Catfish

Black Skirt

Angelfish

Burmese Border Loach

I'm really not wanting to jump in the deep end :p I'm just looking to start off slowly and easily

Advice?

Go for the 40 make sure its a tall tank like 18 inches tall + I believe there is a standard tank that is around 3 foot x 18 inches tall and I cant remember depth but that stocking would do really well in there! I forget which one it is but either the black widow or the black phantom tetras have a reputation for fin nipping but look pretty similar so would maybe consider avoiding the nippy one. Or go for flame tetras :good: Also if you see the flag cats let me know where they are cos I want some :D

Cheers. Yeh the black skirts are proving difficult to find anyway, so I think I'll leave them out. About the catfish, I'm not sure where you are from but if your in the UK there is a really good aquarium outside just Dundee, maybe a bit far away for some, like one of the best in the country:

They have a huge selection I was surprised (it being near Dundee haha), and they do orders too (within reason of course), last time I checked they had a tank with a couple Flagtails - if you have a browse they might have some on their site, quite good prices too.

Ah cool yeah I think I have heard about them but pretty far away for me lol but the mrs does want to go on holiday soon......

With the tetras any of the disk ones will be fine, though avoid things with nippy reputations like serpae etc. Is this your first tank? If so do you know about fishless cycling? Its the best way to almost garuntee success in your tank long term!
