Good Black Sand?

Is there such a thing? I've found dark grey sand, small black gravel, sparkley black/grey glass bits, but not real black sand.

You dont get real black sand, its either crushed down rocks, or just manufactured gravel coloured

What's on the volcanic beaches of the Canary Islands then?

I got some lovely black sand from my LFS. Unlike Pettex Roman Gravel sand (which is purply) this is nice and black. It's not a brandname though and they bag it up themselves. I'll ask next time I'm in to see what it's called.

As above,I've got the moon sand in my 125.Sure there's quite a few others now though.

Isn't the moon sand like fine crushed glass though? I know sand is very fine glass, but I mean bigger grains than sand?

No,it's just like sand,but black.Though I suppose all sand is different grain,but it doesn't look like crushed glass,just sand.
If you're going planted,there are a few good black plant substrates now.
