Put it up to the highest level they can tolerate without being buffeted around the tank. Goldfish like some current but too much 24/7 will exhaust them.

Is there anyway you can have both filters running until you can rehome them? The higher the water turnover the better with these fish - they excrete so much mess.

Do you have anyone who can do water changes while you're away?

Will you consider removing the gravel so mess can at least be swept up into the filters? If it gets trapped in the gravel and not removed for two weeks, you'll be adding to the problem.

Hi
I did 20L this morning I will do 40L tomorrow evening and I will remove all the gravel after I have written this post. I will leave the three filters going. I have the two small ones with little single black sponges in and the big new one.
No there is no-one who can come in. I have no family and my friend is away on hols but lives 80 miles away anyway.
Should I take out the bog wood? Will that add to the polution?
Should I leave the flat off slightly on the lid to let more gasses escape?
Lots of questions, sorry!

Gasses? There won't be any really. Just make sure the filters provide ample surface agitation and that will allow oxygen and co2 to exchange.

Take out all decoration as it takes up swimming space.

Do a very generous water change just before you go but DON'T do a big feed. They'll simply pass out all the waste from this and it will sit in the tank 2 weeks. Feed them the day before you do this last water change. Theyll be fine without food a fortnight.

Thanks so much for all this!
I took out all the gravel apart from a handful yesterday and all the plastic plants. They hovered over the corner of small stones for a while. I think it was because they could see their refection in the bottom of the tank? They are fine now.
Should I do 90%? Out of 60L how much should I take out do you think? I was going to do 54L.
