So, are they trying to say, that for every Goldfish given out, They are going to go and see its tank? :huh:

Ermmm... I really see that happening!

Its disgusting to see Goldfish given out as prizes, being a pound or not.!

Pfft they're too lazy to push a new law through parliament for some silly little goldfish.

This is absurd.

However, the petion makes the wrong case, IMO. It makes a case that is too 'extreme' for the government to really be interested in, given the institutionalised and deeply ingrained abuse done to fish.

The petiton asks for a ban on pets (in this case goldfish) as prizes. It doesn't directly tackle the living conditons of the fish other than to lend weight to the case for the ban. Perhaps if the petition asked for licensing for those wishing to give animals as prizes, and if the petition asked for quite strict welfare conditions for the animals, without asking for an outright ban.

I agree that their should be a ban, but clearly the government doesn't.

It just bans giving goldfish as prizes, but the reasons are a bit ridiculous. If you care so much about fish, why are there still so many Bettas in cups. Whatever.

It's a step in the right direction, IMO.

There aren't, it's actually pretty rare to see that here.

Nowhere sells feeder fish either, or live mice for snakes and the majority of lfs don't sell dyed fish.

And I think giving away free goldfish is far worse than people selling bettas in cups, considering the size, potential age and amount of waste goldfish produce - far less people are prepared to properly look after a goldfish than a betta, plus the bettas are only usual sold at pet stores where correct husbandry information can be given in most cases.

The reasons aren't ridiculous, it's just not a realistic way to try and get things done.
