You’ll have to ask him but it’s based on his older posts.

I hate to be a pessimist, but Trumpy absolutely does not care about tropical fish- unless they have some monetary value to him.

The info is out there, with a petition US members can sign or not. I don't think there's much ground for debate, but fertile ground for conflict.
We won't solve anyone's domestic political issues here (or even international ones).

I do understand the thought of this petition. It doesn't only affect the States but also a lot of other countries (even my own). But I don't think we should be doing this overhere, people. I believe such a petition can do something good. I'll like to thank you for your concern. But please, this should be done outside this forum. For this can become too political which we like to avoid. Please, keep our forum rules in mind.

Trump will most certainly declare that if you make the tropical fish in America there will be no tariff ;)

Cardinals are mass bred in florida farms so they are a horrible example; but whatever.
Well yeah. That's what a tariff is - tax on imports. But tariffs would still increase the price of domestically produced fish. Because they will become more valuable themselves.

I bet not one is any kind of Killifish . Brazilian killies are verboten .
Brazil is broken into different goverened region (forget their terms for such) and it seems that each region sets their own rules on export in additional to the country rules. Unfortunately some of these region commit mass genocide on fishes via development that destroy their habitat at the same time banning their exportation due to 'conservation' which of course is non-sense if they destroy their habitat.

Make America Fish Again.
Against anything that raises fish prices, but it is what it is.

Aren’t most Brazilian fish banned for export anyway ?
I'm not sure about fish, but legally all Brazilian tarantulas in the hobby (and there are a bunch) are illegal and subject to seizure should Brazil decide to enforce their laws and should USFW ever decide to comply with the Brazilian government. Fat freaking chance. The reason is Brazil never legally exported wild caught tarantulas. So the ones in the hobby are all descendants of smuggled spiders and the property of Brazil. We are talking about hundreds of generations removed from the wild. That's how long they've been in the hobby.

Always interesting to see what laws and guidelines are selectively followed.

Not signing ... Not against the tariffs at this point in time.

I have watched to many local industries move because of various regulations that can be avoided by doing so. Tariffs can be a legitimate offset. I was once intimately involved in the process. The company I worked for owned the manufacturing plants of the main products we used. Beginning in the late 1980's those production plants were serially closed and replaced with Asian imports. Over 6500 American industrial jobs were lost. Worse -- Tax rules often offset a majority of the cost of these changes. It was terrible and although I and some of the other local management people in various regions fought it every inch of the way Wall Street had their way.

I am carefully watching this tariff stuff and think (hope) it will eventually transform into part of a cohesive industrial policy, (which the USA is the only developed nation lacking one).

Although the politics currently overshadow the broad discussion it is essentially not political. It is economic and the end game should be a reestablishment of an actual middle class supported by adding value to goods and services rather than a middle class supported by government subsidy.

You can be for tariffs selectively and reject the tropical fish tariff. IMHO The tariff policy won’t survive beyond this administration. Then we will be right back where we were. Revival of blue collar industries is a pipe dream.
