Hiya guys!
After buying my rams 6 days ago, I was kinda surprised to see they had laid eggs already!

I don't think they're fertile as I read somewhere that if they were they would be an amber-ish colour, and these are more yellow/white.
However, if they do turn out to be, is there anything I can do to help the fry survive? I understand that there's not really much chance that any will but I'd like to give any that do hatch the best shot!
I have a large piece of bogwood which would provide cover and lots of plants too (a few mosses, elodea and some other broad leafed plants which I'm not sure of the name of!!). There's also a couple of slate caves and lots of pebbles to hide around, too. Is there anything else I could add/do to try and give any fry a good shot of surviving?
Thank you! :D

I have had three lots of fry from my Gold Rams, the first lot were sucked up into the external filter.
Half of the second lot met the same fate, then I covered the intake pipe with netting but the remaining fry vanished.
The third lot survived for about a week and also just vanished, baffles me because the parents were great at protecting the fry and no other fish were in the tank.

If I get any more fry I will be removing them into a fry tank to see if I can raise any to adulthood this time :good:
So the only advice I could give is to make sure the your filter inlet is covered with a fine netting/mesh, and if possible remove the fry and put them in their own tank, (use a turkey baster to remove them from the tank they are in)

IMO trying to raise fry is a pain in the rear, but good luck. :good:

I didn't plan on giving them too much special treatment, it was just nice to see the parents lay some eggs. The inlet is usually covered by bits of elodea so mesh might not actually be needed. My female betta sits by it a lot too so maybe she'll scare them away!

Well if the eggs do hatch I don't think your Betta will go hungry for a little while, and hopefully the Betta and Rams wont get into a fight when they try and protect the fry!!

The daddy is doing a good job of keeping everyone away from his eggs at the moment, and the betta doesn't really hang around near their eggs anyway. I can always put her in a breeding trap for a couple of days if any fights do break out, though for the moment I'm pretty sure they won't. :good:
