Gold Tetra (Hemigrammus rodwayi)

I have now had mine for a year and they’re very nice community nano fish and visually striking. My group of 7 live with shoals of Espei Rasboras, blue neon Rasboras, chili Rasboras, green neon tetras, golden dwarf barbs, a few ember Tets, two Pristela Tets, and a shoal of CoryCats in a 55 tank.
78 degrees, 7.8 pH, 2-5 GH and KH, 2 AC 110 HOBs, airstone, and black blasting sand.

I used to always have them in my community tanks, and for some reason, stopped when the last group died of old age a while back. @Back in the fold 's question is one to think about.. There are a few great fish like that that have fallen out of fashion. I think for beginners, manufactured glofish have hurt. I see lemons a lot and bleeding hearts were never that common around here. People are down on the various fish sold as serpae because of their territoriality.

I still see tons of neons, black neons, glowlights, cardinals, and widow tetras. What I rarely see that used to be everywhere around here is pearl danios, penguin tetras, scissortail rasboras or rathbuni tetras.

They are on the vendor lists but seldom in the shops.

Here we go again . Been a long , long time since I’ve kept any tetras and I do like them so . . . . .

I've recently come back to the hobby and have just set up a 90 litre which, so far, has just 6 orange lemon tetra. They are very young and small, currently, but apparently will grow to around one inch long.

Neon tetra disease puts me off the more usual tetra.

I've kept tetras/Characins on and off for close to 6 decades (mostly on) and have encountered neon tetra disease once. It might be more dangerous to online shoppers who can't check the fish before buying, but it isn't as prevalent a virus as people sometimes fear. Certainly, you see it in stores that buy the cheapest farmed fish (usually box store chains) but it seems the fish coming from Asia are getting better, and those popular farms are producing slightly healthier fish recently.

I see your point, but….I currently have a mix of older and newer tetras in the fish room. Since I love the tetras and rasboras, I like to simply get what I like whether it be older or newer. With rasboras I have, older are the espei and the newer are rummynose.
In Tetras
OLDER: cardinal, green neon, ember, pristela, and Congo
NEWER: gold and gold blue-eyed congo
……AND……my next tetra will be a newer one, the Muzel Red Cherry Tetra.
