Gold Mollies?

My son has several molly fry in his tank. Mum is all white & Dad ..... well who knows. All the males he keeps never show any interest in the female, one is a dalmation, one a black lyretail & one orange & black sailfin. All the fry except one are white (some were white from birth & the others were grey). One of them is quite a golden colour & I mean gold not orange. just wonderin.....

well fish do not start getting there "traits/patterens" until they get a bit bigger there is also the chance of hybrid and the whoe mendlens gene pool theroy

Does he/she kind of look like that?

If he does, I'm betting the female was pregnant when you got her, and maybe mated with a Gold Molly at the store. Or maybe the fish will get some markings, and lighten up. It's hard to say, with Livebearers!

Thanks for the pic Annastasia but the colour is all wrong. Our fry is not so bright - more of a dull gold. The only comparison I can make is to an old piece of jewelery.

Sorry I dont do pics. Ashamed to say I havn't managed to get my holiday photos onto my computer yet. My future son in law did show my husband & I how to do this when he set the computer up for me but we are a couple of technophobes & have forgotten what he told us.
All I can say is that Mum is white but we dont know who Dad is. All the males in that tank show no interest in the female at all so I assume she was already pregnant when purchased.

Will, if they are a dull gold, I'm asuming the dad was a very dark silver molly. But fry are duller when young. My dalmation Molly babies looked like black mollies when they were born.

A dark silver? How would that make a gold?

And Specks, keep in mind, those Gold Mollies are very bright, and under a light. I have seen ones that look the color you are describing. Gold Carat Mollies vary a lot. But I guess you'll just have to see how he grows up!
