I bought a gold algae eater at my LFS about two weeks ago and heā€™s(idk actually know his gender)growing well but when i bought him he was mostly black except his head and some patches were gold. His gold coloring is if anything more prominent but all his black has faded to a very light grey, itā€™s almost unnoticeable. He has plenty of hiding spaces and he doesnā€™t seem to be sick. Is this normal? I donā€™t have my water parameters atm but all my other fish seem to be fine as well. Heā€™s in a 29g with a gold gourami and six cherry barbs.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

That's normal for gold algae eaters. Some of them start out dark and as they grow they lose the dark colour and become gold. Nothing to worry about.
