You probably know about my strange encounter with my 2 Gold Gouramis and I was just wondering if this was strange behaviour, or perfectly normal for them?

It's not the best videos but you get the idea of what they've been doing, which seems to be every minute or so. Ammonia is at 0ppm so there is no spike from me adding them and there is plenty of disturbance on the surface of the water from my filter so I don't think it's a lack of oxygen.

I know they have the ability to breath air but should they be doing it as often as they are, or isn't that what they're doing?

Are you noticing him go off somewhere else and blow bubbles onto the surface? This is what male gouramis do when they're "gathering" bubbles to build a bubble nest. It's perfectly normal :) if you're still concerned, I'd double check your tank is sufficiently oxygenated. But it looks like he's just planning on making a bubble nest to me.

Yeah, I do see him blow a bubble afterwards :)

Not that a bubble nest will form though, seeing as the disturbance from my filter would just destroy it. I'm not too fussed though, there's no chance of breeding seeing as they're both male ahahh...

They've had a few fallouts but they seem to be calming down now :)
