Gold Fish And Tropical Fish

Not rearly, goldfish prefer cooler water, but the main thing is gold fish will bully most other fish as it's their nature when looking for food.

No, it isn't. Goldfish need colder water or else they will have trouble breathing, and tropical fish will become dormant or die if their water is too cold.

I have always heard not to mix goldies and tropical fish because of the water temp.

But I was reading in the goldfish section on this site and it says that goldfish like Oranda's, Ryukins, and a few others like the temp to be between 74-78 degrees. I know they are big mess makers, but would one or two be o.k. in a tropical tank with good filtration?

Thanks for any info on this.

Goldfish will get along with some tropical fish (my friend has a goldfish in her tank), but their temperature differences make them unfair together. :(

thanks for your help

i have one goldfish and a pool comet with my angels, and stuff.
they seem to do fine together, they've been together for like 3 months now.

so.
i guess its up to you.

are they ok do they fight much?oh yah and do goldies cause a big mess??

3 months really isn't a long time. Goldfish ARE messy fish. I really don't think you should put them with tropicals, it harms them in the long run. Miss Bunkface, I hope you have a very big tank, at least 2 feet wide, because comets get to 24 inches, and they grow pretty fast.

The main point is that commons, comets and shubunkins should really be in a pond, thoguh its ok to have them in an aquarium for the start of their life. I used to keep tropicals and goldfish together(didn't know any better, i was 9), but yeah the common goldfish ate everything.
Fancy goldfish can be kept with some 'tropical' fish, but only really sub tropical fish. You can have white clouds and zebra danios for example, but watch out because sometimes the zebra danios will nip fins, you should keep the temperature around 23 degrees celcius. Some types of corys do well in cooler water temps, but there are divided opinions about this so only try after lots of research and understanding. A heater should be used at all times too.

Goldfish are greedy as well and the smaller fish will have trouble getting food.

I really thing the best option is have one or the other. Besides, if you really can't decide, it's an excuse to get another tank! ;)

well, they seem to be happy as can be.
and, due to lack of funds, they'll have to stay that way for a while, until i can afford a bigger tank.

and i got most of my fish for free. so im not going to complain either.

i kept 2 goldfish in a tropical tank with mollie's, a betta, a red finned (rainbow) shark and some neons,

They were quite small when i put them in there, but when i out them in the tropical tank they grew like mad. They doubled in size in about 6 months and when they got large enough, started taking bites out of my neons, So i gave them to my niece in a small tank.

She killed them with hair spay...... :(
