After all the ICKY (look no swearing) fish i brought and the mess i made of stocking my tank i think im going to cut my losses and restock my tank with wild caught fish and baybe some of my originals , the tank i have at the moment is 4 foot 210 litre due to be replaced with a 6 footer in about 6 months.

anyone have any good stocking suggestion mainly single males with a couple of 1m-3f species trying to keep away from yellow labs , rustys ect.

Here is the website with there stock and only 5miles from my house
stockist

out of interest why do you want to steer clear of yellowlabs and rusty cichlids, both are a nice compliment to any mbuna tank (I have both)?

you will pay throught the nose for wild caught if your lucky to find them and they are from a reliable sauce!!!

the yellow labs and rustys its just prsonal taste, as for paying through the nose i think its worth it and i think i have found a reliable source they normaly ship but as im close they said i could collect.

I love rusties and labs - I think their colors look wonderful with blue species like p. socolofi and p. saulosi - and even more so with a group of healthy p. acei. I see socolofi and acei on your list... though I appreciate you don't like the labs/rusties :p

What do you have at the moment? Are you set on going mbuna again? I'd be tempted to try a tanganyikan tank with some altolamprologus calvus - especialy seeing as you're getting an even bigger tank  They seem to have some wild caught ones at your fish store.

I was planning on mbuna keeping my labidochromis trewavasae, metriaclima greshakei,Metriaclima crabro and the Melanochromis joanjohnsonae all these are single males i think i will get a group of socolofi and may be some white tail acei.

Dont mention tangs you will have mamafish on here in a flash

I don't have a stocking list for if, but I was having a look at the wild caught list. One mbuna in particular caught my attention, Pseudotropheus Elongatus - Chewere. If I could get my hands on some of these little puppies I would snap them up in a second. They are an amazing looking fish, check babyseal clubbers malawi setup.

I only found the website today there are some amazing fish one is a must Pseudotropheus Mbembe Deep - Mbembe point, it looks great also the zebra gold looks cool and the aurora as you could guess the lfs i have found so far have to been inspireing the one good one i found turned out to be not so good ,this place seems to be a wholesale place but they said i could visit as im local, think i will go away and think of a stocking list , any fish apart from the melanochromis i need to keep away from.

Hey Adam

Any chance that you have a link for an image of Pseudotropheus Mbembe Deep, I've tried the usual channels and I've drawn a blank.

cheers, tanks

There are a quite a few people out there that have WC mbuna, myself included, and if you are willing to stay on top of water changes, they are an interesting addition to any tank. Wild caught fish are not really that much better quality than say f1 or f2 fish, they are far more demanding with respect to water quality, so if you go with f1 fish they are hardier and less troublesome to look after, the other plus point is that they are cheaper than wild caught fish.
It may be worth contacting the people you have found and asking for a price list, as has been said already, they are more expensive than your usual mbuna, and its a lot of money to lose if something goes wrong with your tank.

I can see your point with the wild caught and water quality but all the lfs i seem to find have poor quality fish mislabled, hybrids ect if any one does know a good shop in the midlands i be more than happy to pay them a visit.

I have asked the shop for a price on Pseudotropheus Elongatus - Mpanga - Yellow Tail and its come back at £11.00 each which is not to bad but they only sell pairs , apart from water quality are there any other issues with having W,C and what about having a pair instead of the normal 1-3 ratio

thats not a bad price to pay for wild caughts, mine cost between £24 pr and £27, a lot more if your looking for peacocks and happs. :good:

same price for the Chewere aswell ! , did you get a look at the mbembe deep ?

plus, the only reason I would buy a trio of cichlids, is if I could not sex them, would stand a better chance of getting a true pr. and another thing, if your cichlid is small, chances are it wont be wild caught, they only bother to catch mature specimens. :good:
