reason i dont like tetras is because they killed our first betta.
Mmm - Tetras encompass a very large number of very different fish.
By saying "I don't like tetras", is a bit like saying : I don't like brown dogs (type thing). You get big ones, small ones, watchdogs, lapdogs. It's not entirely fair to group them all into one catagory at all.
Ok then, we dont like neon tetras

I dont think ill ever keep tetras, ive seen a variety of them and they dont really do anything for me tbh

Anyone help with the snail problem?

I'm sorry but I really think the Silver shark should be returned. For a start they are a schooling fish and as such should be in groups. Secondly they need to be in big tanks. They can easy reach a foot and 14" is not unheard of. a 25 gallon is just too small. I have an 85 UK gallon and am soon upgrading that to 150 to make sure that the sharks have enough room.

For snails you can look into the loach family (just avoid clowns as they have the same problems as Silver sharks re: size and groups). If you look into the Characin/Cyprinid forum you should be able to get plenty of info on them.

For something a little out of the ordinary...If you have the room you could look towards upside down catfish (Synodontis nigriventris) or even better the featherfin variant (forget latin name) which look nice swimming upside down. Obviously you need to take into account their full grown sizes (up to 3-4 inches) and remember they need to be in groups.

Ill get exact readings from my bf later as he is the one who had the water tested. I will do water changes daily/twice daily (which one would be better?) for the next week or so.

I cant understand why the nitrite shot up, im really gutted 3 of them died!

bloozoo - tank has been running for about 5 months now so its quite established :/
there ya go!

thanks for giving the advice thou im not trying to sound un grateful!

I was just going to say if you have problems in your tank which you do as to nitrites, leave going and buying more fish until the problem is properly sorted out and settled

tokis this thread is over a week old now and i bought 4 red platies on that day, funnily enough the problems started about a week after i bought the platies

Im considering lesser and more frequent water changes, rather than a big(ish) one every week
