Hey,

I’m going to Georgia for 6 days and I bought some weekend feeders, made by Wardley. It says it feeds up to 3 days. Here is what it says on the back of the pack:
Shell (the shape) in your aquarium prior to leaving on vacation. It will slowly dissolve, releasing small food partials. One shell feeds up to 10-12 averaged sized fish in a 10-15 gallon.

I have a 10 gallon stocked with,

4 x-ray tetras
2 Mickey platys
1 red wag platy

So, would this be safe? How many shells should I use?

Dont bother!!!! they work but i dont like them, just give them a good feed on som live blood worm befor you go and their be fine for 6-10 days.

Yeah, I wouldn't use them, your fish should be fine for 6 days. :)

Some of those feeders are held together with plaster. Tetra make a new one which is made of a slow dissolving (edible) gel which contains the food - much better and much less messy. But, as has been said, just feed your fish as normal before you go away (do a water change the day before) and you won't need to leave any food in the tank. Don't worry about them - enjoy your break.

Healthy adult fish can easily go for a week without eating. Don't worry about the fish, and enjoy your vacation.

Or just put it in anyway if it makes you feel better. I have used them in the past and didn't harm the fish, but just use 1.

good question. i'am going away for 4 weeks and i might be considering using one of these blocks. how many should i buy for a 20gallon and 5 fish. thinking about the one with edable glue as mentioned above hehe.

also will they be fine without a water change for so long?

4 platy
1 red eye tetra

thanks!

I'm pretty sure Tetra makes a 19 day feeder gel.

However, you should try to get a friend or neighbour to come in once or twice a week and drop a few flakes in. They should be fine, they can cope with the nitrate that will accumulate.

On another note, that tetra would be better off with some more of his own kind.

4 week, dont use any then just get a good friend to give then a little food every other day this way they should be fine with out a water change!!!

If u added several to last them they would just pollute the water.

I

i might just add 1 feeder block and have my mom feed them once at night before she heads off to bed. as for the water i noticed the level drops about 1/1.5 inches per-week, will this cause a problem for the fish??

i agree my tetra needs a friend. his friend died a few weeks ago i just haven't had the time to get him a replacement friend as of yet, but i'am considering to get atleast another 2 friends for him to be happy :) thanks.

Feeder block can give you issues, as fish peck them alot.

My mate just did that with the tetra ones and they made his nitrates go sky high.

Auto feeders are great, I know they cost alot, but my eheim one was about £35 from ebay and does up to 5 feeds a day, with 2 seperate trays and does a 2 week cycle which can include 'diet' days.

As said though, get a neighbour in to feed them, or just let them eat all your plants

yeah i need to get a water kit as well, i haven't yet tested the water, it's been runing for almost 2 1/2 months now tho without any problems, even after i change the wayer.. so i think it is okay but not sure when i leave for 4 weeks what will happen lol.
