THIS IS NOT suitable for new fish keepers and non mature tanks

i'm going for about 2" per gallon so i have about 100" of fish space in the rio 180

dwarf gouramis = 9" ( 1 male 3 females)
honeys (the dwarf yellow ones under 2" just about an inch so calculating approx 1 1/2 ")= 11"
rice fish = 10"
harlequins = 14"
peppered = 9"
leopards = 7"
black = 10"
getting 2 bristsle nose plecs = 10"
getting 2 rams = 6"

have i worked it out right to about 86"

i have fluval 3+ , fluval 205 and a juwel internal filter running on the tank , i do 40% water change every sunday

WATER STATS
ammonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates 10-20 from the tap then 1-2 days after water change it drops to 0
ph 7-7.2

Is there any reason why you are getting three rams? the odd one out is almost certain to be bullied at some point.
apart from that everything looks fine :good:

Hi Pippoodle

I think you may have your maths a bit wrong :huh:

A rio 180 is 180 lts which is 40 gallons, so if your looking at 2" of fish per gallon thats 80"?? But 80" of fish in a 40 gallon is a bit excessive.

With the fish you have already you are at 80", which is pretty overstocked.

the inch / gallon rule works on us gallons not uk gallons and with the filtering i have i am fine with going with the 2" rule

i wouldnt risk it, i wont even be having 80 inches of fish in my rio 240. more like 60. and it will still have massive filtration.

its not worth the risk.

even with over filtering your still going to need lots of WC's

you know i look after the fishies i got and test my water twice a week ;)

i'm only adding 2 rams and 2 plecs to the current stocking and all water tests have been perfect so far and all fish are breeding like crazy

harlequins have laid eggs , rice fish have dangled their eggs everywhere , corys have just spawned and the gouramis are being ridiculously randy - got 4 nets loads of fry from them in just over a week

so i think everything is running fine at the mo

if anything goes slighty off then fish will be moved to other tanks (got more than listed in my siggy - got spare ones i use while they are awaiting sale or growing out etc)

i think the stocking's fine, the only heavy waste producer is the BN's, everything else is minimal so I think you're at a safe level with good filtration and a decent weekly water change. :good:

Hi

I wasn't trying to be funny or picky :no:

I believe that the majority of UK guidelines are refering to UK gallons not US, when talking about the inch per gallon guide. And as we are both in the UK assumed you would be refering to Uk gallons.

Yeh, with super powerful filteration the scope is there to add more stock, however it isn't just about water quality but also the amount of swimming space and space to coexist.

As Misswiggle says, looking at the current stock and filteration, the current level is ok, but i personally wouldn't add any more.
Cheers

yes going to keep an eye on the plecs and if they do produce a lot of waste in that tank they will move to the aquaone
