hello everyone im planning to carpet my tank my tank with glosso but b4 that im gathering information about the beautiful carpet plant..

What are the requiremnts? (lighting, substrate. fert)
Growth type?
Maintenance
Safe with congo tetras?
misc...such as styling of planting

thanks in advance

Glosso requires plenty of light (even at the bottom of the tank), CO2 (aim for 30ppm) and a fine nutrient-rich substrate (sand can be too fine, pea gravel too thick), 1-3mm grain size works well IME. It prefers nutrient-rich, soft water too but can be grown in hard water if there's enough nutrients present.

It will carpet quickly if you have ideal conditions, eventually growing over itself and other plants if left unchecked.

You'll be able to tell if the lighting isn't good enough because it will grow upwards.

It is a popular foreground plant as it stays so low. Just do a google image search for "glosso tank" and I'm sure you'll get the idea.

I'm assuming Congo tetras are glosso safe, they don't dig do they?

How come my glossos are not spreading outwwards. They are just growing more and more leaves. I have 130 watts
co2=30ppm
Fertilizer= Seachem Trace, nitrogen, Iron, Phosphorous, potassium
Substrate= Seachem Flourite

How big is your tank? 130 watts over what? And what are the dimensions of the tank, is it quite deep? and how did you plant the Glosso?

Usually it grows upwards if you are not providing enough light.

In a "normal" sized and shaped aquarium i find i can grow glosso quite well and have runners spreading quite low on the substrate with about 2.5 WPG, its quite easy to grow if you have the right conditions, it does not like shade when trying to get established, it prefers an open position with direct light.

well from my experience, my congos dont attack or chew on the vegeation around them. They arent shy either, eg when i walk by the tank(located in hallway) they line up expecting food.
