I know that they will be avalable on January 5, 2004 but where will they be. My LFS manager has never heard of them and he said that his fish supplier will not have them in by Jan 5 if he still has not heard of them. I have been patiently awaiting the arrivial of the beatiful Glofish and am desprate to get a few at least 5 or 6. If anyone has any info about where they will be avalable i would be very thankful..

do you know how they dye them????? it's very cruel
Scientists breed them by adding a natural fluorescence gene to the fish eggs before they hatch.
Does it really matter? Do you know that most of the fish you buy at a local store are seriously inbred? Do you care?

well actually yes I do care most of the fish that are dyed are dyed cruel anyways I'm not bashing him I'm just asking but if he feels comfortable than I hope that he does great with them !

They are not dyed if you are talking about the fish that are modified to dectet the changes in water quality they are bred this way(may have been in a lab) but after they were modifed then they are bred for numbers. Do not want to get in to the big debate but I do think that there are very few pure bred fish on the market to day. WE all bred and cross to get the size, shap, color, we want so we all do this but it takes many generations to get what we want and the lab can do it in just a few.

My LPS has them now and I would get some but a $8 each and they say you need a min of 6 I will pass for now. They are very perty fish that look like a large neon and only glow when excited. The one I saw turn a very nice pink.

Your right they are definatly NOT DIED. These fish are genttically altered Zebra Danios. They have been bread his way for ten years and now are avablable to the public. The Fish themelves were never stuck with a needle like other fish that have been died. There eggs were altered and they were born this way. The eggs were injected with color from coral and they have this color through there entire life which there lifespan is exactly the same as a normal Zebra Danio. If you were to breed them even there offspring will have this color. It is not inhumane how these fish have been altered. If you want to know one that is humane it is a Blueberry Oscar. They are Beatiful but NOBODY should buy them because of how they have been treated and because of there slim chances of survival. Other died fish i have seen have been. Kissing Gouramis, Albino Angelfish, Painted Glass Fish and Strawberry Oscars. DO NOT BUY THOSE FISH. If you want more info about the Glofish go to There Website

I didnt know where to put it. I was thinking maybe Zebra Danios are livebearer's. Im not sure what they are. Im sorry if i put it in the wrong forum..

Nope they're not livebearesr I'm afraid as they spawn eggs. I'll chuck this into tropical chit chat for you, as there are a few other related articles there you may also enjoy reading.

Sorry if my post sounded a little harsh, and no need to apologise :)

then get ready to slap down $75, because thats how much they would cost!
Read the other Nine page topic about these fish in General discussions.
I'm curious oscarchichlid, have you seen glofish? not the touched up pictures, but the real things? let me tell you, if you did , you'd change your mind about calling them "Beautiful".
the fact that humans can't be satisfied with the 40,000 fish out there and want more disgusts me, the fact that people actually created these things disgusts me also.

WE all bred and cross to get the size, shap, color, we want so we all do this but it takes many generations to get what we want and the lab can do it in just a few
taking the genes of a jelly fish and injecting them into zebra danios is a lot different than breeding fish with other fish of the same species for their colors.
A zebra danio could never do this without a lab, so its not "Natural" (as their website puts) in any way. and when species are bred by breeders it is 1) completely voluntary and 2) if the fish can do that with their species ( or another species) then its natural, and this is the technique breeders use.

Sorry if this seems a little aressive, but I'm just venting here, if a mod wants to remove this they can.

They are NOTgoing to be $75. Any way they will be at PETCO my frend works there he told me!!

Thanks for answering my question. I know all people have there own opinion on these fish but personally i dont think it is inhumane. They were already created for scientific reasons and were NEVER hurt so why not make them avablabe to all people. I actually want to see how they interct with my zebra danios.. I was to watch them and see their behavior if it is any diferent from my normal zebras..

LMAO this topic will never die. People will always have there opinion and they will always voice them..
yes. it will be like blood parrots. simply mention blood parrot or glofish in a thread, and even it really has little to do with inital question, the thread will become a rant back and forth between those for and against the fish.
makes for an interesting forum some days :D
